My Aunt and I started researching our Ghent family and I came across Find A Grave in our ancestry searches. I was so impressed with the site that I started going to cemeteries and local libraries in search of information. |
Find A Grave is a great resource and has a lot of wonderful historical information.
My goal is to be able to locate and provide as much information on each of our Ghent family members that I can find. I have found more than one set of Ghent's in our area and I am trying to see if they connect, so linking them has been a great tool.
In my many cross-eyed searches in reading small print, very old and blurry microfilm at the library, I try to keep and eye out for information on deaths, marriages, births, etc...on other local citizens and add those in hopes to help others with their genealogy endeavors.
I have received a lot of help from other members of Find A Grave and it's very much appreciated.
Other Family Searches: Clemmer, Johnson, Stokes, Catoe, Waters, Sanders, Godfrey, Broome, Neal, Roach, Dunlap, Taylor, Sistare, Starnes, Rowell
NOTE: ALL OBITUARIES I POST TO MEMORIALS, STATE THE NAME OF THE NEWSPAPER AND THE DATE THE OBITUARY WAS PUBLISHED.
Like branches on a tree, we all grow in different directions yet our roots remain as one
May I add a death certificate to a person's memorial page?
Death certificates MAY BE ADDED via the "Add a photo" button on the memorial page. NOTE: Death certificates do not necessarily contain completely accurate information about the deceased. There are often errors regarding the final burial location (as well as other data).
Can I add an obituary to my interment listing?
You should not copy obituary notices from newspapers (or from funeral home notices or web sites) to an individual's memorial record unless you have permission from the newspaper to do so or you are the author of the obituary. SOME OBITUARIES THAT WERE PUBLISHED IN 1922 OR EARLIER ARE NOW IN THE PUBLIC DOMAIN. In general, obituaries in newspapers are submitted by the family with assistance from the funeral home. IF THE OBITUARY IS ADDED TO THE MEMORIAL RECORD, IT SHOULD LIST THE NEWSPAPER AND DATE THE OBIT WAS PRINTED for example "Published in the Hattiesburg American, Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Internet Edition, April 11, 2007". Please do not include the names of living or surviving relatives in the biography, unless you have their permission. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE PERMISSION TO COPY AN OBITUARY TO A MEMORIAL, YOU MAY PUT A NOTE STATING THE NAME OF THE NEWSPAPER AND THE DATE THE OBITUARY WAS PUBLISHED.

Thanks for your help!
received a message from Find A Grave that I had a message from you-5 hrs ago-nothin there . If it was the article you mentioned, just send it to my emai -email@example.com. Thanks, judy
|Judy Nation||RE: query - Catoe|
yes, would love to have a firstname.lastname@example.org-I have yet to find his obit but will let you know if we do. My cousin has a Master's in research librarianship, so, if it is somewhere, he will find it.
Do you live close to the Abney Baptist Church? I have a cousin who is supposedly buried there . I always hesitate about putting a person on Find A Grave if I am not sure. It is Otis Dempster Catoe (1927-1965).
I wish that Find A Grave had a request place for those not on the register of a cemetery. i have found too often errors in pace of burial.
So, if you are close, can you post a photo of his stone/
Thank you, Judy
Just noted that you are researching Starnes. My 2nd great grandmother Pollie Starnes (1850?-1930?) was married to Robert Richardson who is buried in Rose Hill BC cemetery. You have family info listed for him. We heard Pollie was also buried at Rose Hill but we can't locate a death certificate or find a marker. Do you have any info on her?
|Fran Bundy||RE: William Thurlow Carnes|
Thank you, too.

Could you do a search on Findagrave, please?
Only two of them. Could you move your article to where his marker is located? The other memorial needs to be deleted, I believe. His place of burial was either incorrect in his obit OR the family changed their mind about his place of burial after the obit was in print.
Do you agree?
|Fran Bundy||Move newspaper article|
Could you move your article posted to 54384250 to 29368975?
The 1st memorial is a duplicate of the 2nd memorial which s/b deleted. Just let me know when you move it and I will request deletion of the duplicate memorial.
I love those articles, Cathie. Very helpful!

Thanks so much! Edd
|Edd Richburg||Mary "Polly" Watson Perry (1769-1857)|
You contributed to Mary Watson's Memorial Find A Grave listing, adding a newspaper article concerning her death. However, there is no accompanying documentation of the Newspaper Name, page and date of publication - thus making it a loss to genealogical use in proof documentation. Could you provide that information? I am trying to use this to assist an application in her lineage into the Sons of the American Revolution.
