|I am sorry that it came down to this as I dislike having to make a little request. Regarding Obits/funeral notices you may find for memorials I maintain at Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Portville, Cattaraugus County, NY. I have access to all the newspapers in the area and I am posting obits. as fast as my little fingers will go. Please don't send me a obit. for one I haven't got to yet, I will get to it soon. If you have a obit. or funeral notice for one of my memorials that is from, other than, Chestnut Hill Cemetery please feel free to send them. Thank You!|

I haven't been on here in forever, I apologize! Thank you for posting the photo of my Grandmother's grave.
Confusion has grown up around the surname Schwartz and its variations. Findagrave lists all persons surnamed Swartz as Swarts. There are three recognized versions of the surname — 1] Schwartz, 2] Swartz, and 3] Swart:
1] SCHWARTZ is a surname of German origin, meaning "black" (modern spelling in German is "schwarz"). It was originally a nickname for someone with black hair or a dark complexion.
2] SWARTZ is a German and Jewish variant of Schwartz and a Dutch variant of Swart and.
3] SWART is a Dutch and Afrikaans surname.
MANLEY DAVID SWARTZ, son of FREDERICK BENJAMIN SWARTZ, spelled his and his family’s surname SWARTZ on letters and public and private documents. He, and other members f his Swartz family spelled their surname that way on US Census documents. It is likely that the aberrant spelling arose when newspaper journalists or other recorders writing an obituary or recording the name at enlistment spelled the name phonetically. It was given local substance when some well-meaning person placed headstones on the graves of some members of the SWARTZ family spelling it Swarts.
It should help clarify the issue to note that tracing the family of ELDORA WOOLISER, wife of BENJAMINE FRANKLIN SWARTZ, back to Europe finds her MDKA [most distant known ancestor] JACOB WOOLHISER was born in Strasburg on the Rhine, Alsace-Lorraine, France—an area of German, not Dutch, influence.

|Marcia||Wallace Willington Swartz|
I am the granddaughter of Manley David Swartz, brother to Wallace Willington Swartz. I do not know who went around putting headstones spelled Swarts on members of the family, but I can assure that my grandparents spelled their last name SWARTZ.
In the info section on Wally you name a brother as Stanley D. Swartz. That should be Manley David Swartz. Stanley was Manley's twin brother who died in a horrific railroad accident many years before Wally's death. Also, at the time of Wally's death Manley and Mabel Swartz were living in Santa Clara, California.

Request permission to use your excellent headstone photographs in my family tree. Please excuse, if this is a repeat request. I have received permission to use many photographs in my 15,000 member family tree and have no way to access photographer names.
