After taking a cemetery tour in 2008, I decided to photograph and transcribe the graves of the Civil War soldiers buried at Pittsford Cemetery. That little project snowballed into an obsession to find any information I could about these hometown heroes.|
Since that first tour, I have given many cemetery tours of my own, and I continue to be amazed at the interesting people who lived in my own town and who now permanently reside in the Pittsford Cemetery and the Pioneer Burying Ground.
The majority of the graves I list on Find A Grave are people who reside in my neighborhood cemeteries. I have seen the graves and, in many cases, personally tend to them on a regular basis.
Find A Grave has been very helpful in my personal genealogy searches, as well as to my Civil War soldiers project. I look forward to assisting others with their searches as a contributor.
My blog, Illuminated History (www.IlluminatedHistory.com), details my Civil War soldiers project.

Thank you so much! It looks good!
|Jay Rarick||Wesley R. Hartman|
Thank you for updating the information on Wesley Hartman. I am related to his half-sister, Alma (Rearick) Bingaman.
I also want to thank you for your work to remember the Civil War Soldiers buried in your area. I would suggest that (if you have not already done it) you reach out to the nearest Camp of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW). They are the legal heirs and representatives of the Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.).

|Dede Stafford||Grandfather's Grave|
First of all, let me personally thank you for all of your wonderful work in researching these graves.
Secondly, I wanted to add a little information to my grandfather's grave, strictly for genealogical purposes. (Find a Grave # 161990298) OR if you would like to transfer it to me and I will manage it. Either or!!
He was buried at Pittsford Cemetery (Plot East I20), and his full name was Clair Clifford Freece. Born at Venice, Cayuga County, N.Y. on 2/14/1908; Died at Pittsford, N.Y. on 8/31/1958.
Third: Do you know if he has a headstone/marker?? I have never seen a photo of one and was simply curious.
Thanks so much!!!! -Dede Stafford (firstname.lastname@example.org)
|Alberto Blanco||Sandra Major's grave|
Hi Vicki, I'm Alberto. I've seen you left a photo of the grave of Sandra Major (a victim of the Green River Killer), but her burial figures as unknown. What's the cemetery Sandra is buried in? Thank you.
|Jessica Koch||RE: Gimbles of Pittsford, NY|
I wish I had more information about the Gimbles. Unfortunately, that is where my knowledge ends. However, this summer I will be working on it, so I will let you know if I find anything.
Do you also keep information about Rochester? My dad's paternal side has long roots in Rochester.

Thank you again.

There is a Find A Grave memorial created for Claude at Mount Hope Cemetery (121358085), but he is not listed in the Mount Hope burial records. Thank you for the correction, I have removed my memorial. Judy
|Gale Olsson McHale||RE: Ransom Shoecraft|
Happy to do so, Vicki. I was looking for their daughter (Nettie or Nellie Kier who was married and does not appear in cemetery records) and thought she might be buried near them. Knew they had no photos so I snapped away!
|Diane LM||RE: Civil War Nurses|
I am thrilled to add another name to the list. Thank you.

You're welcome. Not related to this family. Stumbled upon some obituaries and created memorials. Have a few more to forward that are buried at Pittsford, at least according to obituary info.
