Bio Photo ATTENTION: I AM NO INACTIVE please do not request transfers and changes from FAG stating that I do not respond. I am related to many of my memorials, so please do not request transfers other than immediate family line.

My family settled in the Greenville Spartanburg area of South Carolina in the 1700s and stayed here. I have worked on genealogy for over 30 years and loved every minute. I've always loved to visit cemeteries and search for the families of those buried there. I have worked on transcribing and preserving cemeteries for many years. Find A Grave is a great place for us to honor those who have gone before and help families find the resting places of their relatives. I hope to add many more pictures and transcriptions.
If you find any errors, have additional information, or wanta transfer to you, please contact me

I am happy to transfer your direct relatives like FAG rules, but I don't think it is really fair for someone to join FAG and start trying to gather up everyone they know. I could be wrong but I feel unless a contributor is deceased or inactive officially, their contributions should be respected.

Would you know if there is a headstone on this grave?

Thanks for your response, Leigh. God bless, and thank you for all your hard work posting the photos from Poplar Springs Baptist Church and keeping up with it.

cousins wishing to meet up
I have sent a couple of messages to your aol email address but have not received an answer. I am related to the same set of relatives that you are - my great-grandparents on my father's side are Abraham Cox and Rosie Smith. If it is convenient and you would like to meet, I'd like to get together. You, no doubt, have answers to my family tree quandaries, and I would so much appreciate the chance to ask some questions. We also have a cousin in Georgia who is "stuck" in her research and would like to meet you as well. Could you please tell us if the aol email address listed on this site is still in working order? Thank you very much.

We emailed each another back in fall of 1999 & march 9, 2000 about Simon West (b) 11/7/1784 (d) 3/21/1857
& who was his father. He is my great, great, grand grandfather. I noticed that you have post pictures of cemetery headstones on this site. Well I found found out the S.C. Dept. of Archives & History that his father is indeed the son of Joseph West & Mary Offutt. So I guess that means that means we are cousins.

I see my story from FB has been posted ( :) Thanks!). What was posted below about John Hunter is all I really know and some of it is just stories told. I know where he was buried and my family will be placing a marker soon and I wanted to find out more about John's biological family before we have his marker made. Thanks for any leads, tidbits, etc!

John Hunter buried Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church
Renita Cooper Allen is looking for John Hunter--this article is on facebook under REnita name and Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness - RAOGK USA

I don't have a lot of details to go on but here's something I need some help with: I am looking for John HUNTER, born in Union County SC died in Laurens County SC around 1964. He was buried in Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church, Laurens SC. He came to live with Dr. George Moore and his family as a child (approx 12). John was black and the Moores were white. the story is the Hunters weren't able to care for all of their children. another story is John's mother worked for Dr. Moore and she died so Dr. Moore took care of him. I do know that the Moore's built John a house and after the Moore's died out, extended family members took care of John until his health deteriorated and he had to have more extensive care until his death. I am requesting help finding his parent's names and his birthdate. John made straw brooms and sold them to support himself as an adult.
