Philip Henry Whitman
Hi,

I was so glad to find you had posted my father-in-law's grave (95507855) here.

Could you replace the obituary on his memorial with the "real" one that was sent to the places where his friends lived?

It is:

Philip Henry Whitman (1918-2012)
Philip, 93, at last has joined Mary, his beloved wife of 62 years.
Philip, born in Topeka, Kansas, graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in chemical engineering shortly before World War 2.
As a Navy veteran of WW2 and Korea, he photographed the aftermath of Hiroshima and many other places while on duty overseas.
He worked for Gates Rubber Company as a sales engineer in Cuba, Hawaii, Canada and many places in the United States until he retired to Siloam Springs, Arkansas.
Six years ago, he moved to The Heritage, an independent retirement community in Brentwood, Tennessee.
Philip was a voracious bibliophile. He loved and bought unusual cars for family use, including a Studebaker and a Kaiser. He also loved to fish, produce his own wine, play cribbage, listen to opera and devour chocolate-covered peanuts.
Throughout his life he taught himself phrases in many languages so he could greet and thank people in their native tongue.
He loved animals - especially cats - most of all Irish, who went with his family to many of the places they lived in the world and in later years Lucifer, adopted from Paws and Claws in Siloam Springs in the mid-1990’s, whom he always insisted was the world’s greatest cat.
Philip was private, independent, strongly opinionated, seldom unkind but did not brook fools.
He was a man of great integrity and pride who in the end died with dignity - quietly and quickly – in his own home.
He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, David (Patricia), Wayne (Sarah), and Charles (Cynthia), 5 grand-children and 6 great-grandchildren.

Another interesting thing is that he and Mary his wife were cremated (so the stone in the cemetery is only a cenotaph for both.)

His side says "You won't, so I can't" - his favorite saying.

Her side says "A Class Act."

I'm sorry this has taken me so long to get back to you. The photo you posted for Memorial# 16806048 belongs to his father. Is there any way this can be corrected? Thanks for all you do.

RE: Jimmy Lee Dykes
Thank you SO much for being able to retrieve and update my dad's memorial. This website is quite beautiful and unique. As far as any other info, I really know nothing. He loved Creedence Clearwater Revival and many others I do not recall but have ended up listening to myself. I have only one picture of him and most acquaintences whom have seen it say he reminds them of Mic Fleetwood. He did have beautiful hair and my mom said he was very meticulous in keeping it looking nice. I am told that I look more like him than my mom. I do not see it, but I did unfortunately get his big nose and definitely that hair however I find it unruly so most often I look more like I stuck my finger in an outlet than any member of Fleetwood Mac!!! :)

Thanks again,

L

I can no longer find his memorial either?
It was listed as Find A Grave Memorial#104657658.
I do not recall doing so and have read over my flower/note messages, but maybe I said something wrong?

Sorry.

Thank you.

Jimmy Lee Dykes
I am his biological daughter and have his birthdate and wish for it to be edited in place of unknown if possible. I am literally brand spankin' new to this site, so have no idea if you are to whom I would speak to with the authority to make such change. Would you please pass info along to the person whom would as it pains me to just see unknown even though I know very little about him. Maybe with some help, I will be able to figure out how to add the only photo I have of him from when I knew him as my dad.

Thanks so much for your time and consideration.
