Bio and Links
Bio Photo I started doing genealogy back in the early 1980's, researching the Jewett (my mothers' maiden name) Family in the Wright County, Minnesota area. That was back before the computer, when it was door to door, phone calls, or US mail. I gathered 18 notebooks full of information and now am slowly getting that information listed on Ancestry.com.
I started back on my family research in February 2011 after retiring in January of that year.
Unfortunatly, most of the people I talked to back in the 1980's can now only be found on Find A Grave.
To any of you doing family research, I suggest you get to the oldest family members first and get as much information as you can before it is lost to time. Some of their stories (not always true) are interesting and more importantly, informative to your research.
Since starting back up this year, I have made some awesome discoveries thanks to the web. Lots of it I would have never found had it not been for the internet.
Find A Grave is an awesome site, people helping people. I can't say enough good things about it.
I live near the little town of Nimrod, Minnesota in Wadena County located in west central Minnesota. I used to travel the whole northeastern part of the state in my work and drove past many cemeteries, not ever knowing what I was missing out on. Maybe that's a good thing, I would have never got my work done!
To all of you who have helped me, I thank you sincerely and will do my best to help as many folks as I can in their research.
If you are interested in a transfer on any of the graves I have entered, I will gladly do a transfer as long as they aren't in my family line. It does not matter to me how distantly they are related to you, if they tie in to your lines somewhere down the road, I'll gladly transfer them.

You may use them on Ancestry.com, please be nice and give credit.

PLEASE USE EDIT TAB ON MEMORIAL FOR REQUESTING TRANSFERS!!!

I am working on several cemeteries trying to fill in as much information as possible and trying to make as many links as possible. I therefore am sending out a lot of correction requests. If you don't want, or don't know how to make the corrections, please just transfer the memorial to me with a note you want it back and I will make the corrections and additions and transfer it back to you.

Are you related to the Carlile/Blakes in Deer River Pine Ridge Cemetery, Itasca county, Minnesota? Do you do genealogy?

Please remove the newspaper obit. from the picture area. I have typed it into the bio. Also I really don't like to post obits without newspaper verification.
Thanks

Wow! Think we have it right now - if you remove the entry for Robert Isaiah Hedges in Nimrod. Thanks for all the work you put into this.

Ancestry
For many years I contributed very heavily to Ancestry & I when I could not afford their rates, I closed my subscription. Down to the wire, they make big bucks off of folks contributions. I don't mind sharing & helping others but I refuse to contribute to Ancestry.

FIND A GRAVE IS TOPS!!!

Keep up the good work with Find A Grave

RE: Camerons and Castles
Hi Jim. Sorry, I just got your message. I don't have any additional information on the castles and camerons as yet. I happened to come across these pics and thot to update for future generations. Gert Domeno is always the best one to contact on any historical info. Mary Rose was my grandfather's sister and she died i think before my aunts and uncles were born.

RE: Silas M. Haskins # 109960390 Civil War Soldier
Thank you so much for sharing your photo of the marker of Silas Haskins with the Vt. C.W. site. It is much appreciated.
I don't have a lot on him, but this is what I do have:
Silas M Haskins
Born about 1819 in Halifax, Vermont
Enlisted at the age of 44; thus judging from that he was born about 1819.
Enlisted 12/25/1863
Credit to Searsburg VT ,
M/in 1/7/1864 Private in Co.C. 4th Vt. Inf.
M.O. 5/13/1865
Burial; G.A.R. Cemetery in Eagle Bend MN.

Unfortunately a death record hasn't turned up, nor has any biographical information.

You might want to contact the webmaster of the Vermont site. He may be able to add to what little info I have; if not he may have other sources of info. His e-mail is "tomledoux.civilwar@gmail.com". He is very good at responding, and anything he has, or can find, he will share.

Again, Thanks!

May I use the photo of the grave marker that you contributed to the Find A Grave Memorial for Silas Haskins, to post on the Vermont Civil War site? ( www.vermontcivilwar.org) He was a Native Son of Vermont, and I would love to see him recognized with many of his other "old comrades"

You will receive credit for this.
Thank you for your consideration.

RE: Emily Roscoe
Thanks, Jim, for your follow up. Here's what I am finding:

The Eliza E. Roscoe who died 27 Apr 1883 was Elizabeth Cummings Roscoe (1828-1883). Her husband was Charles Roscoe, John B's brother. The death record in Wadena County had her age as 55 and her place of birth as Canada. Those are consistent.

Her parents were John and Catherine Cummings, which is consistent, also, with the death record.

John B. Roscoe was found in the 1900 and 1910 Census's as widowed. In 1900, he was living in Todd County. In 1910, he was in California.

In the 1885 state census, JB was in Todd County and no mention of Emma is made.

Emma is a 3rd great aunt in the family tree, so I have done research on her. However, I don't have any death record from Todd County to prove her death there.

In Washington State, I believe you are finding Carrie (Roscoe) Ward's death certificate referenced and giving her parents names. She died in 1924. See http://www.digitalarchives.wa.gov/Record/View/74F738AFE648B79335E8CC6C8BBC3FAA

Lastly, Emma's parents were Horace and Susan Austin who are buried in Wisconsin. Emma's brother Orlando Austin came to the Todd County area with JB Roscoe and family and brought that side of my family tree to Northern Minnesota.
