Bio and Links
Bio Photo Thank you to all the researchers who have told me that my work has helped them in some way. That is very important to me. I hope others who are able to take pictures and/or catalog cemeteries in the area where they live will do it. This is what this site is all about. Sharing with others who can't travel all over the country getting their family information.
I love getting corrections, transfers, and link requests, but PLEASE DO IT FROM THE MEMORIAL PAGE as it is so much easier. It gives me all the info I need.....along with your request, of course! I will not do requests from the public message page. I am much too busy to look up the memorial to make the changes for you. DO ALL REQUESTS FROM THE 'EDIT' LINK ON THE INDIVIDUAL MEMORIAL PAGE!
Also, I've had quite a number of requests from people who think I also do free research. No, I don't. I take headstone photos and try to make sure cemeteries are complete and online. I have other hobbies. I don't do paid research either.
Thank you.
Happy Hunting, Kathy

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping to nail down the date. I think we both can agree that one of the dates is incorrect. i will keep searching to see if I can locate birth info.

Thanks again for your help. Have a great one

RE: Olga Mitchell Brooks
I noticed that Olga stayed unmarried for roughly six years before she married Brooks and they were only married about year and a half before she died. This is a rather sad story but she is buried, I'm guessing, where she would want to be buried - beside the father of her children.

Olga Mitchell Brooks
No wonder I couldn't find their union in Surry. She left the state to get married. Her new hubby would've only been a few years older than her first child. Evidently she had that motherly instinct. Excellent research, Kathy, that's what makes genealogy so much fun. Her older brother served as her informant and he must've decided to bury her under her previous married name perhaps for the children's sake.

One last thing ....
I was unable to pinpoint any marriage records for Olga with either gentleman nor could I find a death record for Kermit Brooks.

Olga Mitchell Whatever
Well, I found her easily in the 1910 and 1920 Fed Census and it took a long time to track her down in the 1930 census but I think I found her listed as Olga Mayse living with Ray Mayse and several children on Haystack Road in Surry County. I haven't been able to locate a Kermit Brooks in the NC files but I'm guessing ... repeat guessing ... that she remarried after Ray died or she may have divorced him. I thought it was rather strange that one of her children didn't serve as the informant for the dc but I see now that the oldest child (Lillian) would've only been 14 at the time of Olga's death while Rachel would've been 12 and Harrison 10. Perhaps it would be easier to see if an obit could be found for her. I don't know how to verify any of this info. Are you a resident of the area, Kathy???

Alga/Olga Brooks/Mayes
To be honest, I truly don't know what is correct. I used the info found on her death certificate and it clearly shows her last name as Brooks (married to Kirmitt Brooks). It shows her parents as Jacob Mitchell and Sallie Mays. (Evidently the person who created the death certificate has a problem with spelling.) It appears it may take some in-depth screening of the persons involved to see if it can be ironed out. Btw, the informant on the dc was J. S. Mitchell. Perhaps I'll start to dig this evening to see if I can come up with anything, i.e., marriage certificates, family info, etc.

RE: Tracey Marie Honer
I did read before I joined and I understand what you are doing, I just don't necessarily agree with it. To me my sister's grave is a private, personal place for me to go to when I want to visit her. I know it is public property and anybody can visit and all that, what I am saying is that I don't like strangers taking pictures of my sisters grave and putting it on a website. It is a very personal thing. I certainly didn't mean to insult you or your work I just don't agree with it-
