|K. Quentin Bremmer||One more Orton-Crane connection.|
One of George Orton's daughters did marry to one of Tarlton Crane's half-brother's grandsons, but I don't think that branch was at all connected to the Crane/Powell cemetery. I sometimes wonder if there might have even been some family squabble there, as that branch is the one that uses the name "Crain" fairly often.
|K. Quentin Bremmer||RE: Lucy Paugh - Terill Cemetery|
I'm not sure about Lucy. I got that name from a canvas done in the 1960's, which likely also had some names added by memory from family members no longer with us. I did quite a bit of looking for hidden stones a few times, and found some that weren't listed anywhere, but no sign of hers.
I've looked a bit for a direct family connection for the Ortons and the Crane/Powell family without much information found. I do know that in the 1870's George Orton (84093472) owned the farm from the west edge of the cemetery to the road. His son and grandson, both also named George, are buried in Higbee. His parents are buried in Ohio. But other than living in the midst of the Crane clan, I haven't found anything other than Cora Orton, (Geroge's niece), was married to Eugene "Judy" Crane. She remarried a time or two and is buried in Arkansas, and "Judy" doesn't seem to have married again after she left and he is buried in Greenwood along with his father, sister, and Claudia (the daughter he had with Cora). Of course, it could easily be a totally different George Orton, but the records I have looked at don't conflict with the scenario Gensearcher has added to the memorial for George Orton in the Crane/Powell (Terrill) cemetery.
