Hello ! My name is Pete and I live in Columbus Ohio. |
I've been a member of Find-A-Grave for 11+ years now.
Aside from my own family research and documentation, my goal here is to try to help others locate and visit, albeit virtually, the graves of family or friends that they may otherwise never see due to geographical differences, health issues or mobility restrictions.
While there is some satisfaction in fulfilling photo requests from the "bulk uploaders" and "drive-by" photo requesters of the Find-A-Grave community, the greatest gratification for me comes from being able to assist a direct family member or friend of the deceased.
One who actually has a personal ancestral interest in that person, not only in death, but may have also maintained a distinction and privilege of having shared connections with them in life.
I am currently doing photo requests in the central Ohio area. If you need a photo in my area, I'd be glad to attempt to fulfill your requests.
For the most part, I have had fairly good luck in dealing with cemetery personnel in locating and mapping of burials. Most have been great in helping out. A few are not so pleasant to work with. I sometimes sense an attitude from them as if I am putting them out by asking them to do their job. [locate and map grave locations.]
Providing outstanding assistance and cooperation in the area is Mifflin Township Cemetery and Riverside Cemetery - [Mac], Walnut Grove and Flint Cemetery [Tom & Elaine], Union Cemetery - [Joe and Sherry], Dublin Cemetery - [Joanna] and even the biggie in Columbus, Green Lawn Cemetery .
--Help your photo volunteers help YOU !!!--
When making a photo request, you can REALLY play a huge role in getting that picture you want faster by calling the cemetery yourself and obtaining the burial location and include it with your photo request!!
By supplying the grave information, you have helped tremendously by lessening the amount of time a volunteer will have to be on the phone or at the offices of the cemetery.

Hi, you have posted a photo to the memorials for John and Mary Donahue. You also commented on it. On the memorial for Mary it has her born in 1860 but the grave marker has 1856. Do you know any more about her? The reason that I ask is that in my wife's gr-grandmother's belongings was a photo of the same grave marker and I don't know why. Her name was Nettie Dickinson Breedlove Betts. She was the daughter of Lawrence Rea Dickinson and Mary E Murphy and the granddaughter of Martin M Dickinson and Margaret Rea from the Urbana, Ohio area. I have no idea of what happened to her parents. Her mother was born about 1849.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Ken Buttry

I just read your bio. It is great. I feel the same way about helping others and especially when I take a photo letting them use it for whatever way they want to.
The other day someone filled one of my request for an out of state relative. On the photo they wrote copyright by ----, I was unable to use the photo for my on line family tree. My feeling is that they might as well not bothered in taking the pictures if they feel that way.
Keep up the good work.

I appreciate your effort but it is not Samuel Stroud's gravestone, it is his wife's. It reads wife of Samuel Stroud and the death date matches his wife's death date.
Thanks for trying.

Hi, I would love to add this headstone photo to my family tree on Ancestry.com with the photo credit to you of course. Please let me know if you object to this or to let me know how you would prefer the photo credit worded. If I do not hear from you , I will assume it is okay to use it. Thanks so much.

The on-line database was dos based and not compatible with most applications. Also it was developed years ago by an individual who did not share his programming methods so now nobody knows how to convert it.

Today I checked the burial record for William & Mary Leffel. They are buried side by side in the "Old" Section Lot 168.
