I started researching my family about 18 years ago and have had a wonderful time meeting new cousins and traveling from city to city looking for the elusive ancestor. My biggest hobby is searching the old cemeteries (and the new ones) looking for the burial places of my kinfolk and photographing the headstone to preserve for history. I started out with just one name and it escalated from there..I'm now researching over 150 surnames on my line and 75 surnames on my husband's line. Lots of names and lots of data to try and keep organize, but I love doing it. I'm also a volunteeer firefighter and a postal employee. Busy..Busy..Busy!!!|

My name is LuVorise Dahlman maiden name Ruffins named after Luvois Boone wife of Joe C Boone of McKinney Texas. Luvois was the daughter according to her death certificate of Robert and Hattie Gribble. Hatties' maiden name was Morrill. Luvois was married to Joe C Boone who was from a well to do family in McKinney.
I had been told this story for many years regarding the history of my name. I was born in Collin Memorial Hospital on January 20, 1962. As the story goes--when my mother was giving birth to me a lady by the name of Luvois Boone entered the hospital with throat cancer on January 18th, the nursing staff asked that I be named after her. I was born on the 20th and she died four days later on January 24th. One of the only black nurses at this time--Ms. Bertice Perry (who was off work at the time due to previously having surgery) worked for the Boone family cooking and cleaning and took care of Luvois for them prior to her death. By the way, I am African American this is why this is so significant too me.
The reason that I'm reaching out to you regarding this information is that I have been searching over the last 30 years for the origin and meaning of my name--the closet I got was in Los Angeles were a company specializing in researching the meaning of names conducted a search for me--and said it was French and Germanic-the feminine name for Louis--it means woman warrior of words and if you ever get the chance to meet me you will see that it totally suits my personality.
It was very unusual and progressive thinking on the part of Hattie and Robert Gribble to name their daughter Luvois especially in the year 1900 when she was born. The name dates back to the 1600's and was a male name…It was depicted in the French Play Lucile (where by Luvois, the play boy male character falls in love with the French Countess Lucile after dating only married women), then there was the famous U.S Harvard Attorney Lon Luvois and a book titled Historire De Luvois De Son Administration Politique Et Militaire V4 written in 1864. Luvois was also the war minister to Louis XIV. Wow very impressive. I would really like to know more about Hattie and why she would give her daughter such an avangarde name for a female--in the 1900's.
My mother added an R in front of the letter I and an E at the end thus my name is pronounced as Lu Vorise' My contact information is listed below as well as links to Luvois Boone's death certificate listing Robert and Hattie Morrill-Gribble as her parents. This information was researched by my friend Sarah Hatcher, the curator for the McKinney Historical Center/Museum. Luvois and her husband Joe C Boone are both buried at Cottage Grove Cemetery in Celina TX. My photograph is attached at the bottom so that you can put a face with a name--you can also google me or go to my website www.thelvdgroup.com
