|Rodger Wolf||Elizabeth (Potteiger) Wert|
I have a death certificate for Samuel Wert who died 4/7/1907 Find A Grave # 55391438. That document listed his father as Isaac Wert and mother as Elizabeth Batteiger. I am wondering if your Find A Grave #51112591 for Elizabeth (Potteiger) Wert could be his mother and Isaac Wert Find A Grave #51112553 could be his father. Some of the facts seem to match except the maiden name of Elizabeth. I have encountered errors on death certificates before and so am trying to determine whether the name should be Potteiger. Could you tell me where you found Elizabeth's maiden name? Thanks.
I also see on your Find A Grave profile that you may be related to President Eisenhower. I also am a very distant cousin through Rebecca Matter.
|Bruce W. Miller (varkaard)||Heffners|
Neil Scheidt suggested I contact you. I was working on Heffner families of Berks Co. and ran into a question you may be able to answer for me. I have the John Heffner (1800-1889) / Maria Miller family fairly complete but that can come later. I saw that Neil had George Heffner (1776-1858) as his father which my file agreed with contrary to what many Ancestry trees have (J. George Heffner and Elizabeth Klein). Many of these trees also have the above John Heffner confused with J. George Klein Heffner born in 1801. I was able to read that George Heffner's wife was Maria (Wenz?) on his cemetery stone in the picture in his memorial. Searching the 1850 census for George and Maria, I found a pair that matched halfway in Greenwich Twp. Berks Co. George was 74 (born about 1776) and Maria was 67 (born about 1783). The area was right since John Heffner's family was raised in that area. Since there was no Maria Heffner in the same cemetery as George, I searched Find-A-Grave for a Maria Heffner born about 1783 and found one in the New Bethel Zion Church Cemetery in Grimville, Berks Co. Her stone states she was the wife of Georg Heffner, born 6 Apr 1783 died 26 Sep 1865. I love coincidences but I wanted to know if I am correct. Is this Maria Heffner also Maria Wenz? Neil said he will connect them if I am right. Another interesting finding was in the 1860 census. Maria would have been a widow since George died in 1858. There was a Mary Heffner, age 77, living with the Peter Reinhart family. On a hunch, I checked family trees at Ancestry and found them in a few. Peter's wife was Catharine Heffner - evidently a daughter of Maria/Mary (and George?). And living right next door was Daniel Heffner who turned out to actually be Nathan Heffner after I checked the 1850 and 1870 censuses. (His wife was Emilie in all three). I then found Nathan's death certificate which named John Heffner and Maria Miller as his parents. (Many trees I've seen are missing Nathan.) Mary does not show up in 1870 and the one I found in the cemetery died in 1865. This information has me convinced that I have the right Maria Wenz for George's wife but it is all circumstantial. Can you be of any help? Doing more investigating today, I found two older Rootsweb trees that had George Heffner married to a Maria "Wenzel" born about 1782 with a son George born in Aug 1817 and a son Jacob born in 1813. Since I am sure Catharine Reinhart was also their daughter and John (1800) was their son, I checked the 1830 census of Greenwich Twp., Berks Co. and found a George Heffner with a family that fit agewise for the parents and the four children I have so far. There was one son age 10-14 (born 1816/1820 - George 1817), one son 15-19 (born 1811/1815 - Jacob 1813) , one daughter 5-9 (born 1821/1825 - Catharine 1822), and two daughters 15-19 (born 1811/1815 - unknown). George and his wife would have been 54 and 47 which fits with their ages in the census. John would have been 29 and already married (in 1828). In the 1820 census, there is a George Heffner family in Greenwich Twp. but the information doesn't seem too match up correctly. I would like to hear from you as a "Heffner expert". (By the way I am not a descendant - just an obsessive researcher of Southeastern PA families.)

I did find where it came from..a death cert. Another instance of someone not knowing their mother's maiden name.Could you transfer Jacob & Eliza to me? I can fix the names (it is Carsley) & maybe add some more info. Thanks..Kit

I looked at her memorial some time ago before you added the maiden name. Her sister is my 2nd great grandmother. I've been researching their father whom I have as Charles Carsley, but he has many variants, Corsley being one of them. Can you tell how you know she is a Carsley/Corsley. Thanks so much! I have corrected the maiden name of Margaret per your comment. Thanks for the information.
|JAC607||RE: Paul Berlet Inquiry|
Thank you so much for getting back to me. I am a descendant through his son Jacob. I joined the DAR this year and had Jacob added as a new patriot...I guess I'm the only one in his line that has an interest :(
During the course of my research I pulled information on Paul the son (it wasn't always easy trying to figure out which Paul the info was for). Once you get settled and fully unpacked, I'd be interested in seeing if we had info we could "swap" with each other. I've been exchanging info with a descendant of Anna Elizabeth's. He didn't have anything on Jacob or his line but did have some info on Paul the father. Let me know if you're interested in comparing notes.
I hope you and your family have a safe and healthy holiday!

|Geof Wyght||RE: Sarah J. Dance Brown|
Okay, I guess it's two unrelated groups of people. Here's "my" Sarah J Dance:
|Geof Wyght||Sarah J. Dance Brown|
Hi, My records show that she is that mother of Lewis Wilson Dance, not the daughter. The Lewis Wilson Dance whom I am referring to was born on Nov 06 1860, so Sarah being born in 1842 cannot be Lewis Wilson Dance's daughter. Unless there are two groups of Browns-Dances-Whites with the same names. I am a descendant of Mary White's father, by the way. What do you think?
|JAC607||Paul Berlet Inquiry|
I am a lineal descendant of Paul Berlet and noted you have a few dates and pieces of information in his Find A Grave memorial that I was wondering if you would share where you got the information from. In particular I am looking for the information for his first wife Catharina Werth...DOB, DOD & marriage information. I've been doing research on my family tree and haven't been able to locate much on her. Also, do you know if there is a Find A Grave memorial for her? I couldn't find one.
Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to leave me a response on my profile JAC607.
Thank you very much!!
