I started working on the veterans buried in Washington County. I try to be polite and will transfer any of my enteries. I do not go by the Find A Grave guidelines. Anyone may use any photos I have posted because I belive in sharing everything to help in family research. I try to avoid duplicates but one slips through. If I enter a duplicate please let me know.

Charles Harvey Whittingdon Sr. #60950522
Todd, would you please add the following obituary to Charles' memorial?

I have placed a call to the funeral home requesting his death date & burial date. Will let you know.

PS: The "   " is code for a " space ".

Thanks so much, Doni

MR C. H. WHITTINGTON SR.
Funeral services for Mr. Charles Harvey Whittington, Sr., 78, retired longtime employee of the Cities Service Oil Company, were held at 10 a.m. on Monday in the sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church of which he was a long and active member. Dr. Argus J. Hamilton Jr., and Dr. M. O. Smith were the officiants, and interment was directed by the Arnold Moore Funeral Service in the Memorial Park Cemetery.
His casket escorts included Messrs. Charles R. Spears, P. L. Spears, P. L. Shipley, Walther H. Reed, Melvin Zoldoske, Alvin L. Key, and Don A. Hartman. Honorary escorts included Messrs. Chris Autry, David Baldridge, Martin Ford, Roger Key, Greg Lynn, and Kenneth Cannon.
A native of Iowa, Whittington was born on June 18, 1898 at Oxford [Johnson Co.], and when he was 11 years of age his family moved to Burlington, Kans., where he was reared and completed his education. He moved to Tulsa that same year for a brief residence before returning to Kansas and beginning his employment at El Dorado with the old Empire Oil and Gas Company. He was later transferred to the Bartlesville office and remained in their employ following the mergers with Cities Service Oil Co. and Citgo Oil Co., retiring as Administrative Manager of the Land Department in 1963.
He was united in marriage to the former Miss Clara Irene Sylvester on December 23, 1919 at Burlington, [Coffey Co.] Kans., and she survives him of the home here, 353 S.E. Morningside.
Mr. Whittington passed away this last Friday afternoon following an apparent heart attack.
In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include one daughter, Mrs Lyle (Evalyn Irene) Johnson, 353 S.E. Morningside; one son, Charles H. Whittington Jr., Reno, Nevada; two sisters, Mrs. Marie Evans, Corpus Christi, Texas; and Mrs. Edward (Glee) Jones, Augusta, Kans.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren
Final rites and interment were directed by the Arnold Moore Funeral Service."

Thank you so much for placing her memorial on Find A Grave and giving some data.

I noticed you stated when her obituary was. I looked on their website to see if I could locate her obit. but, alas, they do not provide prior to 2001. Would you be able to get her obit. and place on Find A Grave? I would also like you to email me a copy at doni@twsgraphics.com.

I realize I'm asking a lot, but I think it would be nice.

Take care,
Doni
