My name is Donna. I live in upstate NY. I've been doing online genealogy for several years and I have to say, I'm addicted! |
My sister and I have traveled to Swanton, VT to see in person and take pictures of the headstones of ancestors of that area. My grandmother, Grace Gladden, grew up in that area. Since I've been doing genealogy, I've officially traced my ancestry to the Mayflower, which I find to be quite exciting!
Doing ancestry to me is like putting together a big puzzle or trying to solve a mystery. The surnames I've been researching include Beland, Gladden, Camp, Aseltine, Knapp, Bridgman, Hurlbutt, Parks, Dixon, Claar, Brown, Hammond and Nagle to name a few.

Just added a gravestone photo in response to your request.

I looked at the memorial # 29253230. It states that Jean/John Baptiste worked in a Granite Quarry. Fall River was full of granite quarries as many of our mills, mansions, city hall, Cheateau Summere in Newport and several NYC structures were made of Fall River Granite blocks. I suggest you go the Fall River Public Library Website. They have a section for Obituaries. It will instruct you on how to request a copy of John B. Beland's (died around 09.09.1923) obituary for the man buried alone in a double grave in Notre Dame Cemetery. They have all the old newspapers on film and will send you his obit. This will at least give you more details on the man buried in the unmarked grave I located today. Let me know how you make out. Ken

You're welcome. It is a great pleasure for me to find these headstones and get them photographed.

I have talked to Jane and will be seeing her within a few minutes. She ok'd my giving you Jim's memorial because of your connection to his wife. However, she does NOT want George's done and as his wife we must respect that. She asked that I tell you since she does not use a computer.

I probably should have switched the cemetery before I transferred the cemetery to you. If you need help to do it I can lead you but it's all yours now.
I see you have Aseltine- I have some records on ancestry.com that might help you. William Emery m Margaret Aseltine. They lived in Bangor, NY at the time of his death. His brother, Russell, is my 3x gr grandfather.

Sorry. . . somehow I posted the wrong picture to the wrong record, and sent the wrong message to you.
Although every thing I said is true, I could not find a headstone with the last name of "Lane" in Elk Cemetery. It could very well be that it is one that we could not read.
Let me know if you have other questions.
'Sorry about the screw-up.
