Family history exploration for me begins with Ottawa Co, Kansas, but of course led across the country. An inheritor of several generations of newspaper clippings, I started transcribing obits from microfilm beginning at the 1879 start of the paper and realized the value of reading them all in understanding my family's history in the region. A sort of 'community-based genealogy' habit grew and expanded, as did an interest in cemetery preservation and recording. |
Living now in a rural Kentucky county, our local history goal is to locate the old family cemeteries up in the hills, photograph and record. Most are hidden and overgrown; some remarkably well looked after by landowners whether related or not. And several are out there yet to be found...
Am happy to transfer your relatives and happy to help in the hunt for them.

Memorial #74795578 McWhorter Cem, McWhorter, Harrison County, WV. Do you have any further information on the Charley R. Cottrill 1902-1967 of this memorial? You mention source as death record, do you have an obit for him? Could this be the same Charles Cottrell who married Lucy Myers in 1933 in Harrison Co? Any help or insight on this memorial would be appreciated.

I'll be back in Anderson County in a couple weeks and wondered if you could send more information on the location of the Siers family graveyard. I now it's in Birdie, but couldn't find the exact location. Do you have the road name or if it's near an intersection? Thank you.
|Jakob Kanatzar||Calvin Kanatzar|
Hello! I saw, and greatly appreciate, your addition of my relative, Calvin Kanatzar, in the Frankfort State Hospital and School Cemetery. My records list his father as William Roger "Juggy", and his mother as Mary Frances Atwell, and that he died from a fall during an epileptic seizure. Could you share with me what sources have his father listed as Calvin Sr? I'm unfamiliar with these kin and my records may be incorrect. I've had a hard time with the Kanatzar line and any help would be great!
Thank you very much for posting Julia Gault's obituary and cemetery location. I have been researching her for sometime now. She is my 3rd Great-Grandmother on my Paternal Grandfather's Maternal side.

Hello. I noticed that you added some Cook family to the Franklin Cemetery in Anderson Co. Kentucky. I am kin to the Franklins that are buried there and I would love to know were that cemetery is. I have looked and looked for it. I can't find it. If you have maybe an address or even a road name that it is off of, I would love to know. Thank you Corey Armstrong.

"Who is the Patriot?"
While Isaac Johnson was most definitely on the side of the Revolution, he was only 13 in 1776. He may have served since the war continued until ~1783.
However I have proof that his father Thomas was an official in Harford County MD during the Revolution, therefore qualifies as a "Revolutionary Patriot" for admission of a descendant to join the SAR.
I definitely need some reference that this Isaac (1763-1826) moved from Maryland to Kentucky. Any ideas?
Thank you so much for your help in finding old graveyards in Kentucky. You don't say what county you are working in but a big Thank you from all of us who have long lost family buried in Kentucky and never knew about these ancestors until we worked on our genealogies! DR

I am researching the James Clelland Johnson family for a Sons of the American revolution applicant.
Can you provide the newspaper or source for the excellent bio shown in Memorial #12199355?
