I have worked in a refugee resettlement center, been a carpenter, rode bulls before I grew a brain, PC tech, a Animatronic Tech (Animation electronics......robots) in the carnival business. Now I work as a inventory control specialist.I grew up in Dallas and now live in Wolfe City, Texas.|
I am researching the Familes of Long Creek Cemetery, Sunnyvale, Dallas Co., Tx; the decendants of Hiram Bennett, and the Town of Scyene (now part of Dallas), Texas. I am working on Rylie Cemetery and Lyons Cemetery burial families also. I have recently started a facebook group in a effort to coordinate volunteers in an effort to photograph Grove Hill Memorial Park, Dallas, Texas.
If there is information you want to add or correct for anyone I have entered please contact me with the Suggest Correction option under the Edit tab. |MT||Shade Shields, Texas Giant|
You have numerous errors in your post on Uncle Shade. Unfortunately, you have used Weldon Shields book as your source with all his incorrect information. Heights of the giants were by PT Barnum with 11" ruler per foot, top hats and built up shoes. None were as tall as the photos for the side show. Uncle Shade was 6'6" and Ruth was 6' 7".
Shade married Christiana Dorothea "Ruth" "Annie O'Brian" Dunz, German born and widow of William Patrick "O'Brian" Parsons, British born giant. "William Parsons and Christiana Dorothea Dunz Parsons toured as William and Annie O'Brian, their stage names. Uncle Shade married twice first to Christiana Dorothea Dunz Parsons, whom he called Ruth and 2nd to Elizabeth "Lizzie" Rebecca Kimbrough Bone widow. In other words Ruth Parsons and Annie O'Brian are the same person.
Weldon Shields ancestor was the youngest Shields brother. Weldon made Shade the youngest because he was the shortest. He is next to the youngest proven by his letters and census records.
For some unknown reason Weldon Shields made a great effort to have his facts fit PT Barnum's publicity.
Martha Shields Thayer, granddaughter of Frank Shields, Texas Giant
