Bio and Links
Bio Photo Lately I've been a little obsessed with adding names to the Washburn Street Cemetery in Scranton, Pennsylvania. I've found several ancestors buried there and then I read about the cemetery, I just couldn't help but want to add to it.
(I'm adding this info based on both Death Certificates and obituaries.)

PS - I sort of hate the fact that Davis and Davies are so interchangeable! It's annoying.

I live in Colorado and I'm very interested in family history. The whole reason I joined here was to find my ancestors. I love going to cemeteries and taking pictures. Many of my contributions are based off the photographs I take at these cemeteries.

Sometimes I have trouble reading the dates in the pictures - if you can help me you can click the Edit tab at the top and send me a message. I want to get it right! I like linking family members and adding any info you may have for me. :D

I'm more than happy to transfer memorials to family members!

The one nearest and dearest to my heart, my daddy, was the reason I joined. You can always stop by and leave flowers. <3

I helped Beth in Colorado to add all the folks in Lakeside Cemetery in Canon City. It took months, wasn't easy, but it was worth it!

My main interest names are:

A note about my photos - any headstone photos that I took, you have my permission to use on Ancestry or even your own family history pages, all I ask is that you note that I(Courtney Birkes) took the photo. Thank you :)

Thanks for connecting the Nash graves. I have one more request. Nellie J. Nash Mullen is the mother of Leo Stanke. Could you please connect those graves? Thanks again!

RE: Memorial #133981342
Hi Courtney- I am not sure how the memorial works. If you would like to transfer the memorial, that is fine, if not- I am fine with that as well. :)
The story we were told is that David X died due to a head injury from fixing the patrol car, that he had it on a jack and it came down upon him. He went to bed and later passed. This is so interesting to discover he died of a hear attack as my mother died at 55 from a heart attack. (David X is her grandfather).
My Grandfather told me that the X in the name was due to when the family immigrated to America, they were asked what David's middle name was. He didn't have a middle name so they put an "X" there and that became his "middle name". My grandfather named his only son, my uncle, after his own father, keeping the X. My uncle has a son as well and I believe his name is the same. He had no children, nor did my two brothers, so my family is all that is left of that branch of the David X Evans tree. I have four sons, two daughters. My youngest son is Thomas John after my grandfather. Thanks again for a treasure I can pass along to my family- Sharon Vail Russo

Memorial #133981342
Thank you so very much for adding the newspaper clipping for my great-grandfather, David X Evans. I was so very close to my grandpa Tom, this was his dad, who died when my grandpa Tom was only 8 years old. What a treasure to have a little bit of his memory. I have been lightly looking into our family tree and it is so hard to find information from the Evans side. Thanks again! :)

Token left for Traci Fields
Thank you very much for the token you left for my angel daughter Traci. She was a wonderful gift from GOD, and she's in my heart and mind every single day. Her passing has left major holes in the hearts of her family and friends.

I appreciate you helping to reach my goal of 5,000 tokens by her birthday, November 20th. Actually, thanks to you and other findagravers, so far today Traci has received 6,026 flowers/tokens. That makes my family and I extremely happy. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I'm thankful and blessed for your kindness. GOD bless you for your heavenly heart.

I am so overwhelmed with all the findagrave friends requesting flowers/tokens for my Traci. Thank you ever so much!

This is something I wrote for Traci:

It was a cold, quiet night at the cemetery. The snow was falling gently to the ground. The only sound that could be heard was the whistling of the wind. Off in the distance I suddenly heard the tiny sound of jingling bells. I looked around and wondered where the life was in the stillness of this cemetery.

As I gazed around, I saw a ray of moonbeam shining down on a small Christmas tree.

I thought to myself, "This is where the life is in the cemetery!"

Ring the bells this holiday season in memory of those you love.

RE: Email Scam
Thanks for your recent message, Courtney. I can't send or receive email since the scam hit my computer . . . has also screwed my laptop, as well. This is a first for me and I'm already sick and tired of dealing with the mess it's created in my life. May have to take my computer to the fix-it shop and hope they'll be honest in dealing with it. What a world we live in, huh!!! Ann

Alice Davis Young
Thank you for posting Alice Davis Young (132587325). Please would you link her to her father (my great grandfather) John F. Davis (64283540) and her brother George L Davies (97894132). Yes, the Davies-Davis is annoying. My grandmother (Alice's sister) kept the Davies name. George has the location to his grave in Washburn on Ancestry on his military document. Died unmarried. John's plot is #19, West Ave. Section H. I visited Washburn but could not find it, although I have the original 1907 deed.

Larry E. Barnes
Jesse Elbert Barnes 1917-1937
Re: Lakeside Cemetery, Colorado. I see the inscription is Elbert, but you list him as Jesse Elbert Barnes. Is this based on cemetery records? This full name exactly matches my (distant) relative who died of pneumonia on Oct 1, 1937, a son of Jesse Hayden Barnes.
Just looking for a way to nail this down. I think I'll try to contact the Canon City library to find an obit. Thanks for your work.
