Bio and Links
Bio Photo Hello, my name is Mark Douglas Browning and I recently moved from Tucson, Arizona to Dallas, Texas... and back to Tucson again!

I was born in Kentucky, and have lived in many other states across the U.S. including: New York, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, Missouri, Texas, and Arizona.

My ancestors migrated to America from Germany, East Prussia, South Wales, England, and Ireland. Some of these ancestors married Native Americans (Chickasaw and Cherokee). My paternal great grandfather was a Shupe/Shoop from Southwestern Virginia.

I descend from the Gross, Cooper, Brock, Simpson, Saylor and Salyer families of Harlan County, Kentucky as well as the Griffith family of Whitley and Bell County, Kentucky on my maternal grandmother's side. My Cooper and Evans families were originally from Campbell and Union County, Tennessee before moving to Harlan County, Kentucky.

I descend from the Carby and Hunt families of Grayson, Hardin, and Hart Counties in Kentucky as well as the Muss, Hopewell, and Foster families of Bullitt County, Kentucky on my maternal grandfather's side.

I descend from the Craig and Delk families of Whitley County, Kentucky and Campbell County, Tennessee; the Craig and Williams families of Union County, Tennessee; the Fox family of Campbell County, Tennessee and Whitley County, Kentucky; and the Lawson family of Whitley County, Kentucky on my paternal grandmother's side.

I descend from the Shupe/Shoop family of Wythe County, Grayson County, Scott County and Wise County, Virginia; The Browning family of Russell County, Virginia, then Lee County, Virginia, then Hawkins County, Tennessee and later Scott County and Wise County, Virginia and even later Harlan County, Kentucky; and the Looney family of Hawkins County, Tennessee on my paternal grandfather's side.

Books I have authored:
The Descendants of John Muss & Elizabeth Ceise

I am very happy to transfer memorials to family except in situations where the memorial created is a member of my family.

Sorry I forgot to let you know I don't have access to but I have elders and graveyards full of information and I am 48 years old so I know a lot of these people from growing up here and being part of the family.

Congratulations on the baby! I have a 6 month old granddaughter and I know the excitement. I have a lot of work ahead of me...... the cemetery is on a hill with a cow pasture around it. It stays locked but the owner lives very close and is very much a relative. I am going to visit some of the elders in the community and get some inside scoop on our heritage. I know Mary C. Durham was my great grandmother and she was a Dickenson. I really need to find out exactly where the other cemeteries are located, the Gilly cemetery has no name on the cemetery but I will find out soon. Its great working with you and I have just started this find a grave and I have the fever......... haha. Everyday I am out with my camera headed to a cemetery close by to update as much as I can.

Hello Mark......its great to get to catch back up with you. After about a month of grave to grave I have linked some information together about our family. I really need to do my door to door homework about the Gilly/Gilley cemeteries. There are 3 graveyards up on the mountain where you have Sally and James listed under Gilley Cemetery and I have them under Gilly.......I promise to do my real home work and get these cemeteries straight. Someone up the Begley's in under "Gilly" cemetery so I put my great grandparents under the same cemetery, but I do believe they are the same. I will get back with you soon so we can determine the correct cemetery. Thanks again and great to meet my family members!

RE: Mary Betty Shoop
Thank you for your help. All of Betty's siblings are now linked to her grave but her 2 half brothers I haven't found them yet.
