I live in Arizona and have been interested in genealogy and family history for many years. I have been using Find A Grave for quite while and found it especially helpful on a research trip I took to Michigan in April 2008. That trip really got me thinking - and knowing that all my tombstone pictures will get tossed after I die - I decided to start participating!|
I am contributing in hopes of helping others who may be searching for names in their family tree. If you have additional information or corrections - please contact me. If I have made a memorial for your direct relative and you'd like it transfered to you, just ask.

|JanisG||RE: Jane McCraw|
Thanks for the encouraging words about our work at Chester Baptist. We've been working on this particular cemetery for three years, now. Lord willing, we will do another complete survey and photographs this summer, and it will be as complete as possible.
Coming up with the McCreary surname was no problem, really. I feel like I know every one of these families as if they were my own. The minute that I saw the book entry, I knew there was a problem and that we had a McCreary stone. 1) There is absolutely NO one named McCraw in this area. 2) We were missing a Jane McCreary. 3) The folks who did that 1990s survey were REALLY struggling (and often failing) with reading those old stones. (The place is, as you say, in horrible disrepair for a still-meeting church.) This is, simply, an error and should read McCreary.
It would be great, working at Chester Baptist, if we could get photographic proof of everything, but it just isn't going to happen. (Boy, how I wish it were possible!) Even the stones read by the folks in 1993 aren't all there anymore.
This cemetery is my "favorite" of the oldies, because it is so neglected and unwanted. Last night, I finished a month's worth of work in going through the book again (working with Don Curtis, who's a marvel at listing) and linking as many as possible with parents, spouses, and children. I've also tried to give every married woman a maiden name, but that hasn't always been possible, of course. The only thing left to do is get over there one more time when the nice weather comes.
Thanks for your work and understanding about this error-filled book. It's a good springboard, and I'm grateful that they took the time to walk the place more than twenty years ago, when things were in a little better shape. It makes the job much easier when you know who is buried with whome. It's time, however, to move beyond the errors, and you're doing a bang-up job in helping us do this.

Hi! Actually, I asked for the name change, because the 1993 Cemetery Transcriptions book which I have shows ABRAM. Perhaps we have two different books.

I am perplexed on this one. I didn't make the original memorial and have a message out to my cousin who did.

I want to thank you for all the wonderful pictures you took there! They were a whole lot better than the rather gray photos I took several years ago.

The two stones are right next to each other; I think I put a note to that effect on one of the captions. I didn't see a stone for Harriet & she is not in the cemetery list. However, I will check further around there next time--I still want to get a better sunshiny photo for each stone, which may be a while.

Thank you for the transfer.

Thanks for the transfer of Laurence, Happy New Year to you too!

Calculated using age on headstone. I always mark the bio sections as such. It helps when using the FindAGrave search page and looking for someone born before or after a certain date. Thanks for taking care of this for everyone who's looking (smile).

Was researching some of the Rogers side and see you posted flowers on James Rogers and mentioned he is your 5th Great Grandfather. He is also my 5th Great Grandfather through his son General Thomas Rogers. Would love to compare notes.
