I enjoy searching for family information. Most of my immediate ancestors are from McCracken and Marshall County Kentucky. With the surnames of Vannerson, Beyer, McCain and Bailey. |
I do not come from royalty (darn) but I do have a very famous ancestor, Julian Vannerson. He was a famous civil war photographer and many of the photos of General Lee in his uniform were taken by Julian.
On a side note... There is a photograph that has never been seen by the general public. Julian sent 3 photos home for safe keeping and one of them hung over the fireplace in the family home unfortunately it was stolen while the family was attending a funeral. If you have seen an original work of Julian Vannerson taken during the Civil War era and it's not in the history books there is a good chance this is the missing photo and the family would like to have it back where it belongs. Thank you.
I give of my time and resources because I love being able to help others find a missing piece of their family. I also love the format that Find A Grave provides. A FREE resource for family members to aid in their research and the ability to leave a message in memory of them.
The majority of the memorials I've added are not my family. When I went to a cemetery to fulfill a photo request I would often find many stones in the area with the same family name on them. I would photograph and post those as well if a memorial was not already made. It is my hope that it would help family members locate lost family members or aid in their research.
I became frustrated with a very large cemetery who would charge $5.00 per name to look up a burial plot. Thinking this was wrong and it should free to the public, I along with my husband set forth on a mission to document every grave in that cemetery and then turn my spreadsheets over to the historical society. He and I have spent weeks on this major project.
I will gladly transfer any of my memorials so they may be maintained by family members. I am honored to have had the opportunity to photograph and/or document a piece of family history for you and for future generations.
I have photographs for almost every memorial that I have created for Valhalla Cemetery and many, many more. We are talking thousands. I will be posting these throughout the spring and summer. Due to the large amount of photos I am posting them by sections and perhaps can fulfill some requests as I come across them. If you have made memorials for that cemetery please be aware that you may see an increase in family links and edits.

Thanks for the photo. You either got your camera back or replaced it.
Don't know why he isn't buried with his wife. She isn't buried with the 1st husband either. Makes me wonder!!

Hi! Thank you so much for the updated dates. I do not like this new system, I seldom go to my profile page and miss messages. You have been busy with photos! I would like to thank you both for all of the wonderful photo's you have added and all of your hard work.
Best to you both,

Shirley, I do understand and I thank you for understanding too. I feel better knowing we are still able to be kind to one another in this world. I will be more than happy to give you credit ~ as I've said to others, were it not for the Find A Grave volunteers, none of us could have these treasures and they are treasures, personal ones to me ... I recently joined myself and when my grandson whom I have been watching turns one (just four more months), he gets to go to day care and I get to go out and do my part to help others too. I am excited to be able to do so! Thank you again ~ Eva

Hi, I just got your answer to my request for permission to use any photos of headstones of my family and ancestors. Yes, as you can see I am requesting from many different Find A Grave volunteers if I may use their photos, which to me shows I am honest and ask first, not just take. You are the first one to ask me whom I am related to and which ones I am asking about which I will be happy to answer. The particular cemetery I found you on (and I am sure there will be more) but this one is Valhalla Cemetery in Bloomington, Indiana. I found some Roberts I am related to, descendants of Otha H. Roberts whom is my 2nd great-grandfather. I have found doing genealogy that there are innumerable names of families due to marriages/names change/and family grows larger. I have family and ancestors from the east to the west coast I never knew I had and I am so happy to be learning my history.
I am currently working on ancestry.com because that is where I am finding the most resources. However, my tree is private and I intend to keep it private. I am also aware that in the last several months Find A Grave and ancestry are trying to work together more for those of us trying to research and do genealogy on our family, for if we didn't care we wouldn't be searching and doing this. I am also trying to do my own research anywhere I can think to look.
I hope this is a sufficient answer to your questions and you will reconsider my request. I assure you I am genuine in my use of the pictures. I have taken comfort in doing this tree and genealogy work since I lost my father four months ago. Somehow connecting to my roots of generations ago it has helped the grieving on some level.
If you still decline please just let me know, but again, I always ask permission and don't find it unusual.
