Bio and Links
Bio Photo PLEASE remember that an INSCRIPTION is something WRITTEN ON THE STONE. It is not something you found somewhere else or something near the stone.

I have been working on genealogy for about 45 years and my husband, Roy, and I are also working on a project to identify and photograph burial places of Civil War veterans in Iowa. He is the State Graves Registration Officer for the Iowa Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW).

I have Virtual Cemetery of Civil War Veterans buried in Iowa which now has well
over 15,000 names but is unsearchable because Find a Grave will not search if there are over 10,000 names. I have contacted them several times about this issue and would appreciate it if you would also contact them at support@findagrave.com to tell them that you would like to access this Virtual Cemetery. Maybe if enough people ask, they will fix this problem. I am fairly certain that I am not the only one with this issue.

If you are a relative of someone I have posted a memorial for--that is NOT a relative of mine--I would be glad to transfer management to you. I do have a personal policy of NOT transferring memorials to anyone who is listed as Anonymous, though.

Please feel free to use my photos as you like, but I would appreciate photo credit if you use them on another website.

If you have a comment, question,or correction to any of my Memorials, please use the Edit on the Memorial page. It is much easier to find the correct person that way. Additions and corrections which are phrased rudely as demands may be ignored.

Gregory Cammack
I found that you say that instead his name should be Cammack Gregory, yet I found him on a 1870 census of Davis County Iowa named Gregory Cammack and he was listed not to far from John Cammack who they had mispelled his name. Where did you find him as Cammack Gregory? Thank you for a reply. Carol

I think you have it now. When I started looking for George's dad I had to blink twice and count on my toes. Thanks

I put the photo and added a comment that included the plot (Section B29 lot 42 space 4) but you may want to add that info to her memorial.

I checked the plot where his wife is buried, but did not find a stone for him (she remarried). Although he is not listed in the cemetery book, he could still be there, so I will keep looking for a stone for him whenever I am at the cemetery. I also was not able to find an obit for George.

His son, Ed was a monument cutter so I believe he cut the stone or set this one later. It is not the little marble ones provided by the government. One of my other great grandfathers a GAR is buried in Masonic Cemetary Hydro Ok. Garrison Joseph Wells. His brother J.P. Wells a GAR also is buried in Collins, Iowa

RE: Watson Empson
I know Fairview and Walnut Hill have a number of CW vets - both cemeteries have CW tributes in a section where a number of the CW vets are buried. I also know Fairview has some that were re-interred here from a battleground in the South. These two cemeteries are difficult to work since they are wooded hillsides. The sections are often irregular in shape, and not identified in the cemetery, so it is difficult to tell where one section ends and another begins. Also, in many places the rows are not straight. Unmarked grave locations are sometimes not easy to identify. Having said all that, if you will send a list of those appearing to be buried here but also in another location, I will see if I can find out more about them. I am working on two other "projects" right now so my work will not be a quick turnaround but the sources I will need sometimes overlap with what I am working on. Also, I occasionally have short times I need to break away for a recreational interlude, and researching a veteran on the list may be just what I need if you don't mind getting results that way.

RE: Watson Empson
I recognized our Linn connection and figured it was another of your Civil War efforts but wanted to offer anyway just in case. Always happy to help with this project. Paul
