Bio and Links
Bio Photo I have been researching some of the 36,000 + Army Air Forces personnel who died in the line of duty, of non-combat causes during the World War II era in service-related accidents. It is said that more
than 15,500 Army airmen were killed in airplane accidents between 1941 and 1946, within the borders of the U.S. and it's territories. They gave their all and died in the service of their country, but received no purple hearts and virtually no mention in the history books and have largely been forgotten by time.

For corrections, additions, or requests for transfer of memorial, please use the Edit tab, and select Suggest a Correction or Provide Additional Information to make any update requests. It is much easier to handle the issue this way, rather than a personal message.

I am happy to update any memorial, including family links. But I DO NOT like adding census information, copies of death certificates and please do not add long obituaries to the "photo" area. The information can be condensed and pasted into the bio area. If you don't have the time to type out the obituary, just email it to me. I will add it and give you credit for finding it.
I appreciate any information that can "round out" someone's bio.

RE: Crash Site
I have been to the Mt. Harrison crash site. Do you live in Idaho? There are actually two B-24 crash sites between Carey and Burley, Idaho, both from 1943. I'm currently looking for both. There won't be any large pieces left, just debris fields of small pieces. I've been in contact with the son of the sheep herder who found #42-7074 and rescued the survivor. The BLM is involved, and is talking about using high resolution satellite images and using a drone to check the area.

Re: Clarence Bryson
Thank you so much for the photos for Clarence. I truly appreciate all the hard work that you do. I have been working for some time on military from my area, with a special interest in those on the Honor Roll from WWII. I still have about five more requests for that cemetery. The request list is so long that fulfilling them all must be a monumental task for those taking and editing the photos. Thank you again and if I can ever be of help to you let me know.

Re: Richard Sample
Hi Tim,

I notice that you are looking for military that died in plane crashes in the states during WWII. You have a photo request for Richard Spangle in Butte Co. Cemetery with a death date of Sept. 16, 1943. I was wondering if the Richard Spangle that you are looking for had a death date of Dec. 6, 1943. See memorial #3542683. According to a note on the US National Cemetery Interment forms he was one of six who was killed in a plane crash at Huntington Lake, CA in 1943.

Thank you, Mr. Cook, for dedicating your time to these soldiers who died without going into battle. Shutty's is a story I have heard told my entire life since the 1950s. We would have been cousins if he had lived, but he died before I was born in 1946. Your efforts are much appreciated. John Robinson
