Greetings! Thank you for the edit request for her. What is the source for her name (Julia), please? I've been posting official sources for the past 9 months, because I get so many messages asking me where the information for people comes from; they want to be sure it's accurate information, which is perfectly understandable. Thank you!
|V B||RE: Jannat Swain Hills|
Thank you! I got my info from the Fort Hill website, so I am glad to hear that can be corrected. I stopped in the office a few years back and told them Jannat Swain Hills, my 2nd great grandmother, was not listed on the internment records online and it was never corrected.
I will delete James S. as I never could figure out where in the family tree he fit anyway (didn't exist makes sense now!)
I do have two James Hills in my family tree. There is a James Seymour Hills who was my father's cousin, and James Richard Hills who was the son of Eleazer and Sarah Wolcott Bissell Hills.
Thank you again for the information!

Thank you so much for your interest in my Hills family. I am wondering why there are 4 James Hills listed on the Fort Hill Cemetery Roster....
Hills James S 79 7/24/1902 Mount Vernon 1 14
Hills James E 42 7/14/1903 Mount Vernon 1 15
Hills James R 51 9/8/1882 Mount Vernon 1 6
Hills James S NO AGE 2/18/1944 Evening Side 2 11
I have not been able to find Jannat Swain Hills on the roster, but I have visited the large memorial at Fort Hill that has her name on it. What documentation do you have that this roster is incorrect?
Thanks for your help!

How very nice of you to offer to go the "extra mile." At this point in time, I don't think I would need to call on you as another contributor as furnished many photos of the gravestones of Douglas' family. I don't think I'll get to all of them today since it's almost suppertime. But please know how much I appreciate your permission and cooperation.

I am currently compiling in hard copy the Cheadle family history of which the above is married to a descendant (3th great granddaughter of the progenitor, George Cheadle). My mother-in-law was a Cheadle. I would respectfully request permission to reproduce the tombstone photograph on the memorial site, as well as any others you contributed which may pertain to our line. Credit would be given such as "Courtesy, Hobie Romig, contributor, Find A Grave Memorial # ? ? ?" If this is not agreeable, I would gladly use whatever you prefer. Some contributors prefer no credit in which case I use "Courtesy of Find A Grave contributor who wishes to remain anonymous."
If I do not receive a response by Jan 15 I will presume you have no objections to either my request or crediting you as I have described. While I would prefer to hear from you, please know that this "deadline" is not meant to push you to a decision but to perhaps save you a little time by not having to respond? I want to cover all my bases to be certain I offend no one and I also believe in giving credit where credit is due.
My treatise is in no way a profit making project and will not (by my request) be posted on the internet nor will living individuals be included to the best of my ability.
You have no idea how much we who are of an age (I'm 85) or distance and cannot do the hands-on research we once did appreciate the effort and passion of you who contribute your research information to the Internet. Many thanks from an old lady.

I wanted to let you know that the photo that you attached for Eli VanGuilder's headstone, is actually Achsa VanGuilder. She does have a memorial, though. Her number is, 113020339 Thanks so much!

It's even worse. With one particular gravesite (William Williams) I asked for, they actually looked in an old book, then told me there were too many people named Williams, and they could not get a reference to go to a different book where the gravesite and plot numbers are recorded. I asked them to look closer, but there were so many Williams surnames and I think they didn't understand how American names work and they refused to research more. I don't think they understand common American Surnames. The woman who refused to help spoke poor English and actually had difficulty distinguishing between common American surnames and common first names. She was very nasty about all this. I have been dealing with Mtn. View for many many years, have an old family plot (1900) and bought a new plot about 5 years ago. It wasn't like this before. I suppose that the cemetery has changed because they recently opened a new Eternity Garden where they are selling multi-million dollar huge family sites. They are re-culturating the cemetery and have no interest in anyone who was buried there before the new rich family sites were developed. I've seen this situation before: old neighborhoods of Frank Lloyd homes in Vancouver neighborhoods sold for high prices, torn down and new 6 bedroom, 4 bath houses built in their place (1980's). I guess Mtn. View cemetery will go the same way. I suspect that they would like the non-endowed areas to just go away, so that they can develop more costly multi-million dollar family sites. I would not even be surprised if some day there is an accidental fire that destroys the old records and books. The have no interest in looking in the books, doing any research, or transfering the historical records of the cemetery to electronic files. Profit oriented only. No historical interest in what went before in this cemetery.
