I have been doing ancestral research for about 40 years. By being involved in searching records and information, I have made many new friends (fellow researchers) and met family members who have become personal friends. This is a great (and addictive) hobby that has opened the lives of my antecedents and their migration across North America from the European Continent for me. Just finding names is not the goal for me. I want to know how they made their living, what the times were like, and just get to know the individuals as personally as I can. By combining history, country, and economics, it is easier to create an interesting even though incomplete canvas of the journey of one's life. Sometimes I only have a name, but I never stop seeking a clue here and there. Sometimes my efforts are rewarded but more often, the secrets are still floating in the hazy gauze of time.

I am a retired executive and newspaper correspondent retiring from director of a senior citizens center. I retired from the American Red Cross working in health, safety, service to military families, and disaster as volunteer, paid staff, instructor and instructor trainer.

The pictures that I take for Find A Grave may be used in your research and transferred at will. I hope that they help you in your endeavors.

Most all photos I take in Englewood Cemetery in Slaton, Texas will have life dates, burial date, and location of grave if you click on the pictures.

Thank you!
Sue and David, thank you so much for so much work on my behalf. It was a random request, and I did not mean to make so much work for you two. I saw Sgt. John Rolfe Carter's memorial while I was piddling around with obituaries and looking for someone else. I have a huge soft spot for veterans who fought and/or were killed in WWII, so I requested a photo. I assumed there was a cenotaph in his parents' plot and thought he deserved a photo.

Again, I apologize for making you work so hard, and I do thank you.

RE: Sgt Joh Rolph Carter
The marker for John Carter is on the back side of John and Cora Carter's marker. I went to the cemetery today and got pictures of both sides. I can send these to you or if you cancel your claim to Sgt Carter's Photo Request, I can add it myself. Let me know.

If the parents correct names are not on the memorial that is usually the reason I add the death certificate and/or birth certificate. I can remove the death certificate if you don't want it on there.
I am a disabled 63 year old woman and stay home most of the time. The reason I chose 1953 and Texas is because that is the year I was born and the state I was born in. I am overwhelmed at the number of babies that were born and died that year. Even more surprising is that so few of them have memorials on Find A Grave. When I create the memorial I do a search for the parents and IF I find memorials for them I will link them. I also add the birth and death information to others memorials . I believe it will help current and future generations that start researching their family lines. I have 76,060 in my family tree as of today and add more all the time. If thousands of other people had not taken the time to do the research and put it on ancestry.com I would never have been able to get this many names.
Your compliments are beyond kind and are truly appreciated. If I can ever help you just let me know.

Hi Sue,
Thanks you so much for the compliments. It was my pleasure to fulfill your photo requests. Yes, I do believe that is a cremation vault in front of the C. Spencer Sloan headstone. I do try to provide photos that are clear and easy to read. I'm so glad I was able to provide photos that met your needs. :)
Cheers!
