Hi there, would you be so kind as to delete the photo of the entrance to Lawnwood Cemetery on Billy Dean's memorial? I have another photo to add.

If you would, please contact the legislature concerning the conditions of the cemeteries at the Florida state Hospital. I have included how to contact your reps if you live in Florida and who to contact if you do not live in the state. Also, I included a copy of my email that I sent to my reps. Thank you so much for your kind words and help.
Find your Florida elected officials:
If you don't live in Florida, contact the elected officials for Gadsden Co. where the hospital is located:
Bill Montford – State Senator
214 Senate Office Building
404 South Monroe Street
Tallahassee, FL 32399-1100
Senate VOIP: 5003
FAX (850) 487-5086
Alan B. Williams – State Rep.
1001 The Capitol
402 South Monroe Street
Tallahassee, FL 32399-1300
Phone: (850) 717-5008
You should be able to access their emails on the web pages.
1. Please make them aware of the survey done by Chicora. I inserted the link and how to access the report.
2. Ask them, specifically, what was going to be done to ensure that these cemeteries will be preserved and maintained.
3. Remind them that these cemeteries are under the care of the State of Florida and on grounds owned by the state and, therefore, the State of Florida's responsibility.
4. If no response within a week, then call. Please continue to follow-up
Copy of my email:
I am not a resident of your district but what I am concerned about is.
My husband's grandfather died at the Florida State Hospital in Chatthoochee in 1926. We have searched for his gravesite for years and only within the last month have found it. The Chicora Foundation of South Carolina was asked to do a survey of the old cemeteries of the hospital. An extensive 243 page report is available on their website: www.chicora.org.
It was only through their efforts that our family member's burial site has been located. But because of this report, we also found out about the deplorable conditions of these cemeteries. Their neglect goes back many years. There are five cemeteries in all with #3 & #4 cemeteries in the worst condition. The Chicora Foundation was thorough and detailed even in the preservation and maintenance needs of these cemeteries.
In the name of decency and what all is right these cemeteries need addressed. I have been in touch with some people at the Department of Children and Families and understand that there have been some recommendations done but not nearly enough. And, of course, it is not difficult to know why - funding. Most of the neglected graves were of indigent people. My concern is not of the neglect 50 years ago but of the neglect today.
If you have not been aware of these conditions then, please, become familiar with this report. If you are aware - then I would like to know the plans for preservation and maintenance. I understand that the next step has to come from the legislature to appropriate funds. The cemeteries are in dire straits. The recommendations were made two years ago, particularily since two of the cemeteries are in the wooded areas and are being overrun with forest. And now we have two years of added growth to an already forested area.
Thanking you for your action in advance,
|Linda Lennard||RE: James Quillian|
You are very welcome. Would you be interested in a campaign to contact the FL legislators about providing funding for cemetery preservation? I will send info to you. Even if you do not live in FL you can still contact them.

There are 28 Conley's listed at Woodland, there are 2 infants also, my experience with infants from the early 1900's is there are no markers(usuially) you can go to www.woodlandcemetery.org to see if any of them are relations.. Bud
|Loretta Castaldi||RE: The Conley's|
I linked Benjamin and Thelma Conley as you suggested. Would you like to manage these memorials?
|JoeyC||RE: James Quillian|
It's my pleasure to do this for you.
As for James DOB it looks like they put 1911 and maybe tried to change the second 1 but never did.
As for Gerald I went to the office and told them I've been to the section many times looking for Gerald. They were more than willing to show me where he is. There is no headstone. I did take a photo of the grave. Do you want me to ad it to his memorial? LMK

You're welcome. Glad to help! Ron
|TSE||RE: The Bailey's|
You're welcome Lyn. Several more Bailey family members on that lot in Locust Grove. Not sure how they are related. There are'nt any inscriptions on the back of the large family stone, only the small stones that surround it. If you wish, I can post them to memorials and tranfer to you if they fill in any blanks for you or mail the pics to you directly and let you decide. Other Bailey's on the lot are..Rose Marie, 1946-2010..Francis A. 1917-2000 a 3 war veteran..His wife, Ruth Alice 1916-2003.. Frederick H 1918-1937 and Herbert a Navy Vet who apppears to have died in 1948. Must redo Herberts pic, it came out terrible because the marker is showing its age. Should you like the pics sent directly contact me here, firstname.lastname@example.org
