Bio and Links
Bio Photo When I joined Find a Grave it was a good website where a person could find and connect to their past without having to pay an annual fee. As I searched other volunteers home pages, I would read in their bios how they too expressed their support for the website and how it helped them to find a love one. On certain occasions though, I would come across a bio in which the volunteer didn't write a bio about themselves, but they expressed anger about the neglect of other individuals who didn't abide by the website rules. As I continued to read the bio, I wondered why they would choose to express their anger and frustration rather than write something good about themselves. Well after many years of contributing memorials, photos, and flowers, I know now why they wrote those angry words. I have come to realize that when a website offers free membership, it opens the door to every idiot who has nothing better to do than to create frustration and tension for other people. If these trouble causing individuals were forced to pay an annual fee, I believe they would think twice about wasting their money on creating aggravation for other individuals. I am changing my policy, and will be a STRICT keeper of the Find a Grave Rules. This means: Transfer requests should be for direct relatives within four generations. This would be YOUR siblings, parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. If you don't understand this, then go find someone who does understand this statement and can explain it to you. There are many of my relatives memorials that I don't manage and I am quite happy to leave them in the hands of other people. If there is something I want added to the memorial I click the EDIT tab and make my request. This is the correct, by the rules, way for this website. If this rule is not followed, then when I receive your email/request, I will list it as spam and it will be deleted.
Another rule I have found that volunteers are breaking is the photo copyright rule. You CANNOT claim a photo you DID NOT TAKE. I have found many of my photos being copied and pasted on other memorials. This is a serious rule infraction. REMEMBER, IF YOU DIDN'T TAKE THE PICTURE.....DON'T TAKE CREDIT FOR THE PICTURE! Ask for permission.
Finally, Be accurate with your information. When photo volunteers go out to fill a photo request, they are taking their time and money to get you that photo. Don't just put someone in a cemetery because it seems like the right one. Take the time to do some research and get confirmation before you list a memorial. Be Considerate!

There are certain individuals out there (and you know who your are) who have caused me to take these measures and unfortunately for the innocent, I'm sorry but things have changed.

Woodrow Hampton
Hi there.
I read every bio that I come in contact with. I love yours, don't agree with everything, but I still love it.
I checked the photos that you take "Awesome" is all I can say.
Now the reason I wrote to you is I just received some data on Woodrow Hampton and saw that you are the maintainer of most of his line and wondered if you would like this memorial also. Whenever I see a cemetery survey in a cemetery near I look up names, Hampton being one, I put them on Find A Grave just in case they are relatives of one of our children's spouse's etc. Daughter in law was a Hampton. This turned out not to be any relative at this time. Ya never can tell when can you?
The "Very Best" to you and yours, Bud

George J. Crawford
BWS Sheppard

Let me introduce myself, I am George J. Crawford, a great grandson of one Benjamin William Smith Sheppard. He is my closest lineal Confederate ancestor. Other than his Confederate service, I had very little information on him. I had surmised he had two wives, Mary E. & Francis, from census records, but no specific birth date (born abt 1847) or death date.

Benjamin William Smith Sheppard was a Private in Co. C of Findley's Battalion, a volunteer State Guard unit that later became Co. C 5th Reg't GA Reserves CSA. He was listed as present on muster rolls dated 25 April 1864 and 3 May 1864 in Macon by Charles E. McGregor and Capt Whiddom, respectively. He served from 16 October 1863 to 31 August 1864. It was noted in the record he received no pay, but was issued two uniforms on 26 April 1864. There is no pension record.

However, last evening, I was surfing around the internet and out of curiosity typed into Google my other lineal Confederate ancestor's name - Simeon T. Burke. I ended up finding pictures of his tombstone on So I tried typing in"Benjamin William Sheppard", but found nothing, Then I tried just his first name and found over a dozen entries, none of which were him. Finally, I typed in just his initials, B. W. Sheppard, and low and behold, a single entry for a "BWS Sheppard" popped up. Its him! He is buried in Bulloch County in Eureka Cemetery (what an appropriate name, huh?). Buried next to him is his first wife, Maryann Elizabeth Barnes Sheppard, who died twenty years before him. My grandmother's mother is his second wife, Francis.

I wanted to thank you personally as heretofore, I have been unsuccessful at locating any additional information on my great grandfather. Your entry on has given me new information and renewed interest in discovering more about this branch of my family.
