I became interested in family history in May 2010 when my mother's sister passed away. All three sisters had passed within three years! It made me realize that the older generation was leaving and if I wanted to know more about our family, I better start asking questions! I got very interested in family history and discovered that I really enjoy visiting eastern NC cemeteries, taking pictures of headstones, and figuring out who the people were and if/how they were related to me. I focus on Martin County (my dad's family) and Wilson County (my mom's family).

I am a member of the DAR. John Jackson Morgan Sr of Nash County, NC is the first Revolutionary War patriot I have been able to prove my connection to.

This hobby (obsession?) has been a real blessing in many ways. The best part is meeting relatives I never knew I had, and becoming friends with some of the most wonderful people I've ever known.

When contacting me about a memorial or photo I have added, PLEASE INCLUDE THE MEMORIAL NUMBER.

RE: Jodie Whitley's parents
Hi Deborah,

I apologize for my 'out-of-the-blue' question, without providing enough information for you. I've just joined find-a-grave, and am still learning the ropes.

The memorial number for Lillie's grave is 141555369. Lillie G. Whitley Peele is my wife's great-grandmother; you had posted a picture of her grave on Jan 19, 2015, located in the Maplewood Cemetery in Wilson County, NC, beside her husband, Daniel McCullen Peele. (He was called "Cully".) (You also have posted quite a bit of information on his family.)

(A link to Lillie's page is : )

On that page for Lillie's grave, it says that her parents are Jodie Whitley and Victoria Proctor. In my information, I have his name as Joseph Elmore Whitley, and that Jodie was his nickname. I have his birthday as 25 November 1865, but I don't know his parents, or where he and Victoria are buried.

My intent wasn't to set you off on a huge search; I hoped that they were also your relatives, too, making you a cousin of my wife, and would have happened to have known more about Lillie's parents, grandparents, inlaws, etc. (My wife's maiden name is Baldree; other names in her father's tree are Owens, James, Galloway, Pittman, Williams, Byrd, Harris...)

If you happen to have any such information that's easily available to you without causing you any trouble, I would be appreciative of sharing; but if you don't, I'll simply keep looking for them elsewhere.

Thank you,

Jodie Whitley's parents

Jodie and Victoria Whitley are my wife's 2nd-great-grandparents. Do you know where they are buried? Do you have any information on their parents? I have Victoria's father as Redmond Proctor, mom as Sallie, but that's about it. I don't have anything on Jodie, other than his name was Joseph Elmore Whitley, and dates (born November 25, 1865, died February 22, 1938).

Thanks for any help!

John C Dawson #116879863
I am approving the change as I see they are on census in Pasquotank Co, in 1930 and the tombstone gives the date you have, also a DAR app. but I did find a death certificate for John C Dawson for the date I have with wife Annie....Suppose there were 2 John C Dawson's with wife Annie. The photo of tombstone I had to request and suppose I did not pay attention when the request was filled.
I do Not find a death Certificate for a John Dawson on the date you give and one on tombstone, so this is a mystery to me.

RE: Ada Summerlin Langley
Thanks! I'm finding it very confusing... I have this marriage record at
I find it hard to believe that two women in Wilson County, NC named Ada Summerlin both married men named Will Langley... Right?

William Mack Ayers
Found further inforatmion. William's spouse, Maude Virginia Ayers was born in 1891, died July 26, 1923 from malaria at age 32. The youngest child, Robert lester Ayers was borin Oct. 1, 1922 and died August 21, 1923 from measles at age 10 months. Both Maude and Robert Lester are buried in a family plot in the countryside of Martin County. We have differing information on Grandpa Will's father's name. One source says Tom Roberts and another says Tan Rogers. At this point we are unsure.
