Picuris Sacred Grounds area
Hello Ross!

My family, the Quintana's, from Penasco and surrounding areas, have called the cemetery , the "Quintana Cemetery" since many relatives with that name are buried there, at the cemetery next to that picturesque landmark that so many artist love, the "Church on the High Road to Taos". Due to people in the last 30 years moving to the area, outsiders have given names to those cemeteries and it makes it more confusing to relatives or people interested in the cemeteries. We, in the family, call it the Quintana Cemetery and the family told me that some family members (over the years) changed faiths and are therefore not buried or at least not in that location (which is natural for people to choose) however, the people at that time were told by local priests (at the time) that being buried closer to the alter was a privilege and honor. So some people were buried near the walls of the church or due to funds, in unmarked graves. In the 1800's , people used wooden crosses as well and those would be gone in today's times.

Thank you for attempting to locate the graves of Concepcion and Pedro Garcia. I was hoping a photo would help me verify my info because I do not agree with what is on the memorial. Apparently I will have to keep digging elsewhere. Thanks again.

Linking family
When others create a Find A Grave Plot, it would be nice if others could add links to family members, like Husband,Wife & Souse, in which is there, but add Child also, Felix.
