| Bio and Links | I am listing the cemeteries in the Vital Records of Highland County, Va. I hope to visit each burial site and photograph the headstones. However the Matheny's directions some times are not very detailed. Making it difficult to located the small family cemeteries.
11-27-2011-First big milestone, I have entered 1,000 names into the database.
I use a variety of sources to supply information for the graves I list. I attempt to add more than just dates and places. Two important references that I use are Vital Records of Highland County Virginia by the Mathneys (They traipsed all over Highland in the 1970's & 1980's transcribing nearly all the headstones in the county) Pendleton County WV Grave Register. Other sources include 1910 Mortons History of Highland County & 1911 Morton's History of Pendleton County. Over the years I have complied information on graves (some unmarked) from the elder residents of Highland & Pendleton. | |

 | Andrew Lockridge and wife Jane Graham grave site.
Hi,
I was told by family members that Andrew was actually buried on his homestead in Augusta Co. VA. In fact there is a house that some of his descendants still occupy as of today. The names and dates are right according to our family bible but I do not know why he would be in Highland Co. VA when in fact he lived in Augusta Co. VA. Can you enlighten me please or maybe there was a county name change or something and if so when?

I can not thank you enough for locating the cemetery where my Great Grandmother Carrie Hyer and my Great, Great Grandmother Malinda Hyer are buried. I have had photographs of their headstones for years, but did not know the name of the cemetery. I have posted the headstone photographs. Have you actually walked this cemetery? I wonder if the white fence is still there. I live in Iowa, so I really appreciate your consideration in entering their memorials.
