I was born in Connellsville Fayette County Pennsylvania Oct 4,1935 to Harry E & Elva K(Lytle)Brierly. There were six of us, four boys and two girls. surviving are two boys and one girl.|
After over 150 years of Brierly's in Fayette Co the family has about run it's race.My younger brother lives in Maryland and I am in Florida.
The base families in the Brierly line are Lytle,Trump,Bird,Burd,Byrd and a host of others.
I started with 25 names in 1995 and now am over 2900.
After 3 Years in the USMarines and 20 in the USAF
I retired with the thoughts of enjoying a life of leisure. In 1984 (after 5 years of motorcycling all over the US ,I settled down to a full time effort of finding my roots. Not only in Pennsylvania, but Ohio,West Virginia and many more states. What a trip this has been. And it is realy not over yet.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, you understood me correctly. Peter Bird was not the son of Andrew and Mary Reese Bird. I can say this with certainty because this couple were my 4th great grandparents. There is still in existence (owned by the descendants of my great grandfather's eldest brother) two old family bibles that include the births beginning with Mary's son Joseph Reese (b. 1750) by her first husband and continuing through the next three generations of the Bird family. There was no Peter's birth recorded in those records. The Bird family (later spelled Byrd) had been living in the Shenandoah Valley since 1732, having come to the Virginia frontier with the Jost Hite group from Pennsylvania, so they were quite well established in the area when John Lewis 'Bird' arrived. It is not unusual for early researchers to assume a relationship between families based on surname and proximity.
Peter Bird's family was probably German, having arrived at Philadelphia in 1749. This is not my family, so I have not done extensive personal research, but the following source included some clues about this family that was previously known as "Barth". I borrowed the book through interlibrary loan, but copied only the pages I needed for my own research and those that helped me clarify that the Barth/Bird family was not related. You could probably glean additional information about Peter's family from the book. Whether the Virginia John Lewis Bird is the same man as Johann Ludwig Barth I shall leave for someone else to prove, but there is evidence that John Lewis Bird, usually called Lewis Bird, was in Frederick Co., VA from an early time and that he died there before 1770.

I have made the suggested corrections/additions for Lillian Byrd. If you are related please let me know so that I may transfer her memorial to your care. I am not related - just walked that section of the cemetery taking photos.

I was at Buena Vista Cemetery today when I noticed an inscription on the back of a military serviceman's marker, Jacob Storm. The writing is for his wife, Sarah #110176774. I took a photo and added it to her memorial. It appears you may know both Jacob and Sarah so I thought you might want to know about the new pic.

thanks for all the great work you do!
I noticed your post on Carla Denhardt's profile about the Bird family. The Bird, Frazee and Turney families are all part of my ancestry.
I'm trying to find ancestral info on these 2 women:
Sarah "Sallie" Bird b. 1791, m. Philip Turney, d. 1873, bur. Old Turney Cemetery in Addison, Somerset, PA.
Barbara Frazee b. 1878, m. John Henry Turney, d. 1964, bur. Addison, Somerset, PA.
Thanks for any help you (or another reader) can provide.
all the best,
