When I was 8 years old I found out that my grandmother was adopted. I was fascinated and wanted to find out what her name "really" was and who gave her away. I just didn't know how to go about it.|
After graduating from college (Fire Up Chips!), I moved to the Washington, DC area for my job and eventually took up genealogy. Fortunately, it was a cheap hobby for a much-taken-advantage-of-not-paid-well hotel intern. It didn't cost much to take the metro into DC and spend the day in the National Archives.
I'm back in Michigan now and after 23 years of wandering through cemeteries, going through court records, ordering birth and death certificates, reading hundreds upon hundreds of obituaries, and questioning relatives...I am no closer to finding my grandmother's parents than when I was 8 years old.
But now I'm able to share all the photos I've taken over the years!
Grandma passed away in 1999 without knowing the answer to this mystery and she was fine with it. She adored her parents and saw no reason to find her other family.
I'm still optimistic.

She died in 1905, that is why I could not find her in the PA death certificates which did not start until 1906.

When and where did Paul Edward Stiteler's mother die? I could not find her in the PA death certificates (1906-1936). Paul Edward Stiteler's father Joseph Webster Stiteler was listed as a widower when he died in 1936.
Maybe I missed (Ella Robinson Stiteler) in the death records.

You asked about Martin Whitaker Jr. - his place of birth. I have researched this side of my family for years. I have tax records and voting lists that show his father Martin Whitaker Sr. lived in Washington Twp., Westmoreland Co., PA until about 1847. I have nothing on paper that shows Martin Whitaker Jr. was born in Westmoreland County other than the records above on his father. Although the area Martin Whitaker Sr. lived in was just a few miles from the Armstrong County border (across the Kiskminetas River.
Are you related to the Whitakers?

|Brenda Swonger||Benjamin Irwin|
In the Glade Run Cemetery for Benjamin Irwin 1776-1850, you have asked the question "husband of Catherine?" He was the husband of Margaret Ann Marshall 1786-1840 and they had a daughter Catherine W. Irwin Wilson 1818-1873.

Hello - I saw you had posted a picture from East Mahoning Cemetery and I was wondering if you had any photos of headstones from there. Specifically Cyrella Treese (my great grandmother)

Thelma DeHaven's name is not listed as a daughter of Albert & Elizabeth DeHaven. She was my mother Pearle DeHaven's younger sister. Aunt Thelma was born in Bennington, Blair Co, PA on 6/21/1918 & died 12/6/1979. She is buried with her husband Charles in St. Patrick's cemetery in Gallitzin. I had submitted info to Find A Grave at one time but no longer do so due to visual loss.
Thank you for adding my Aunt Thelma's info to FindAGrave.
