A native of Louisville, Kentucky, I have pursued my ancestry since 1982, and relocated in 1998 to the Licking Riverside neighborhood of Covington, directly across the Ohio River from Cincinnati. Discovering so many relatives who were involved in the early history of Northern Kentucky has been an exciting find.|
Maj. William Thornton Timberlake (1789-1857), founder of present-day Erlanger, and William D. F. Timberlake (1818-1870) of Covington were both cousins of my fourth-great-grandmother Sarah Ann Timberlake Sheppard-Woodfin (1809-1855) of Richmond, Virginia. Sarah Ann's first husband and my fourth-great-grandfather, John M. Sheppard (d. 1835), was an uncle of the Richmond artist Lieut. William Ludwell Sheppard (1833-1912), and was a cousin of Gen. James Taylor (1769-1848), founder of Newport, Kentucky, his sister Alice Thornton Taylor Berry (1773-1837), and William Armistead Pendleton (1801-1848), first court clerk of Kenton County.
My favorite discovery in recent years has been locating the monumental inscriptions of Sarah Ann Timberlake Woodfin's fourth-great-grandparents, Thomas Symes (1620-1669) and Amy Bridges (1624-1662), who were buried in the chancel of St Michael Church at Winterbourne in Gloucestershire, England.

|Robert C. Peurifoy||Purefoy's in England|
Am interested in your source for the Purefoy's in Shalstone. This is my family tree, knew more were buried in England but not where. Have found a few more in a cathedral, but my source is still buried in a pile of boxes from a recent move (does three years still count as recent?). There are also a few in Ireland. I have records of their deaths, but not where buried. Also not how to link them.
Thank you for adding these memorials. I have most of these in my family tree, but with out dates or burial places.
BTW, the English Actor James Purefoy (Rome on HBO, in Resident Evil and last year the main character in the NBC show "The Following) is also a descendant of these.
Robert C. Peurifoy
In America the Purefoy name is dying out, as is my spelling, which began about 1800 when my direct ancestor moved from North Carolina to central Georgia.
