NEWSPAPER OBITUARY OF JOHN HAMPTON WILLIAMS, SR.
JOHN HAMPTON WILLIAMS, SR. PASSED AWAY TUESDAY 1:55 P.M. (8/5/1931)
Funeral Services of Pioneer Sabinian Thursday Afternoon at Florien Home.
Having blazed the trails of civilization in Sabine parish and seen these trails evolute from oxen
roads to paved highways with miraculous super-speed vehicles running thru developed farms and
midst institutions of enlightenment, far beyond the realization of any pioneer, JOHN HAMPTON
WILLIAMS, SR. expired at his home at Florien at 1:55 Tuesday afternoon, after serving a life of
progressiveness, and leaving a splendid family of boys and girs to carry on the work of making a
True to his friends and true to his country, MR. WILLIAMS applied for enlistment in the war
between the states, but was refused at the outbreak of that great conflict because of his tender age of
16, but did enlist the following year and served in the Confederate army until the close of the war,
having been in many important battles, including Camden, Arkansas and Mansfield, Louisiana, and
at the end of the conflict he returned to Sabine to spend the remainder of his days, ever ready to fight
for what he thought was right.
JOHN HAMPTON WILLIAMS, SR. was born in DeSoto Parish in 1846 and reached the age of
85 years. He moved to Many, Louisiana with his parents as a boy and in 1866 was married to MISS
NEOMI FORD, to which union 11 boys and 3 girls were born, one girl dying in infancy. His wife died
in 1890. In 1891 he wedded MISS SUSAN WOODELL, who survives him. To that union were born
three boys and a girl, all living.
At his bedside were his eleven sons and 3 daughters, all useful citizens of whom any father could
be proud and feel that life was worth giving up.

You are right. I made a duplicate listing. Lela Powell is my grandmother. You can merge the listings. I don't know how to do that.
