Bio and Links
Bio Photo Born and raised in Fresno, California of Alabama born parents, got into Genealogy in 1997 when I could not figure out what else to do with this computer on-line. I have built up quite a lot of pictures of old shots of Clay County and Jefferson County Alabama. I have visited most of the cemeteries of my ancestors and my Wife's ancestors in Missouri, Oklahoma and Arkansas. A Self-proclaimed Historian with a California Historical society (E Clampus Vitus), I am visiting places of historical interest and with my trusty Dimage , Vivitar and Olympus digital cameras have been taking pictures of headstones at whatever cemeteries we may visit and Historical Monuments in our travels in California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Washington. In Fresno, I have added the 1919 biographies of early Fresno residents from the Paul E Vandor book titled "The History of Fresno County" to as many listings as I could. If you have something you would like to have added to a Bio, just drop me a line.

I follow FindaGrave rules and usually transfer close relatives within 30 days. You can complain to the FindaGrave administrators if you want, but you will likely find they too have little patience for impatient people.

RE: John King
Hi Lester, Thanks, I wish somebody from my family was alive to tell me which is the right one. The J. King grave you're calling John King might be him, but my family and the cemetery fellow Jerry also said Jonathan is buried next to Abbie, not Solomon. I do know they take the death record info from whomever is present to give it upon death, not always accurate. I went back to the California Death Index and looked; The middle name is "A", the birth year is right according to the family Bible and the census records, and the town he died at is right. Could the informant have stated his first name wrong, or could the entry clerk have erred on the first name -Of course. The grave next to Solomon may be his, or may be James, Jennie, or Jemima? (We actually DO have more Johns as well! )You said it belongs to John - how do you come to this conclusion? I hope it is him! Are there any dates on that small marker - does it say 1932? If it does, it can't be Jemima, Solomon's mom, or Jonathan, (yes, another Jonathan) Solomon's dad.
This is as far as I can get with this one. I added a note to the memorial to state that the death record shows first name "David" but everything else matches, that way if someone else is looking maybe they might have a way to look into it. At least the cemetery has his name, so we know that he's in that cemetery & near his family. I'm happy you have taken an interest in Jonathan's grave location as i can use all the help I can get & I'd be interested in hearing if you find anything else on him, or that "J" grave. Something verifiable would be SO helpful. Anyway, Lester, this is small potatoes, not to worry. Have a great Memorial Day.

RE: Abbie Sanderson
Hi Lester, Thanks for the help. In your message, you said "also found out that the John King next to Solomon Maxwell King is John King age 74 that died on July 17, 1932 in Fresno, so he was born around 1858 just like John Alvin King, but died at age 74," - How did you get this information and is there more? I called the cemetery and Jerry said there are no death records on file at the cemetery for that person buried there, so if you have something concrete, I'd be very happy! I couldn't get much information about that grave awhile back, other than just the letter J. with that great location next to Solomon, but "J" isn't an absolute that its John, as it could be our James, (or any other J name) but it could be that my great aunts were wrong that John was buried by his sister Abbie - Maybe he WAS buried by his dad Solomon, instead. I had put a lot of notes in my write up on his memorial so others can try to figure it out too.

RE: Assuntina Marchini
Thanks for the reply, Mr. Letson. Charles Arnabolde(i) was her husband. Interesting that their surnames are spelled differently on the headstones - - however... there is a story behind that that may explain it, not a happy one. I never heard of the name "Quilici" either. My genealogical records show Concetta and Assuntina's mother as Angelina Bandoni, (Maiden name). They all came from Lucca, Italy, although I cannot confirm that as their actual birthplace... some records I have indicate St. Pankraz, Italy as Assuntina's birthplace. I have some other dates I'll be submitting soon. Thanks again.

RE: John Abner Russell
Lester, I think I have everything ready for you to delete your memorial for my grandfather. I added the information about E Clampus Vitus---and I had no idea he had ever belonged---to my bio for Grandpa, and it only enhances my image of him, mind you.

I have the utmost respect for E Clampus Vitus. My other grandparents were dirt-poor immigrants who are buried in a pioneer cemetery in Martinez, CA. Twice a year, E Clampus Vitus members descend upon the Alhambra Cemetery to do the cleanup. Thirty years ago, the cemetery was swarming with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the deceased. But as years pass, and the older generations pass on, there are fewer and fewer of us descendants who bother to show---but E Clampus Vitus is always there!

Interesting to not also that you hail from my home town of Fresno, CA. I lived there from 1949-1967, but go there seldom since my parents and step-mother passed on.

Thanks for all your work!

Al

John Abner Russell
Hello Lester. Several days ago, I created a memorial for my grandfather, John Abner Russell. I just found out that you had already created a memorial for him back in 2008! I would like to merge the memorials. I think the easiest way would be for me to delete the one I created and start linking his descendants to your memorial. Sound like a plan?

CHRISTINE (Dawson/Nystrom) LU
Would love some help please
Hello,
I am writing to first of all thank you for providing a photo and cemetery of my paternal grandfather's grave site. No one in my extended family has seen or visited it.

It is my great desire to locate with your help. I will be in that area in a few days.

I know that Lawrence Grant Dawson (1894-Oct 13, 1975) died in San Luis Obispo and interred in the Mountain View cemetery. I have been told that there are no records kept from 1975 to help me locate it.

Years ago I did go there and tried unsuccessfully because 5 cemeteries fill the place with thousands of grave markers.

I was also told that Lawrence Dawson was buried in the COUNTY section of Mountain View cemetery. But they can't help me either. I even checked with the Coroner's office in Fresno to no avail.

If by any chance, you have GPS coordiantes or other means to help me find this, I would so VERY much be grateful.

Hopefully yours,

Christine
