I have been documenting the cemeteries in Iowa county, Iowa and helping families find their relatives. I have photographed most of the cemeteries here and I am still working on adding the photos to memorials, and/or creating ones that do not have one in hopes of their family finding them.|

Dawn. What fantastic images, and what unusual markers. Thanks so much for going to the effort to find and photograph them. I think I can probably copy that pic and enlarge and crop it to get the detail on both of them. These old eyes don't work well enough to see them as is.
It also looks like that cemetery isn't very well kept. Another reason to get them all photographed before it is ruined entirely.

It it isn't too much of a bother, I would be interested in what records the local township commission has on his service records. The only records I can find for a Michael Pletcher who served are for a Michael Pletcher who served in Co. C, 198th Ohio with widow Huldah, Michael H. Pletcher who served in Company C 67th PA Infantry with widow Sarah E. or C. who collected as widow starting in June1863, and Michael Pletcher who served in Companies I and K, 161st Ohio Infantry National Guard. The first two seem unlikely, but I supposed National Guard duty would be possible for a man in his 60's.
