I have been a genealogist for 22 years now. I love local and family history, cemeteries and helping others locate information about their family history. I helped organize the genealogy society in Chesterfield County in 1998 with the main goal in mind that the future members would help clean and care for the abandoned cemeteries there. We cleaned a couple in the beginning and then we became so preoccupied with the duties and responsibilities of the society that we did not have time for the original goal. Go figure!|
I continued to be concerned about the preservation of the markers that do still exist in Chesterfield County and knew that I could never take care of all of them myself. Then I found out about Find A Grave through a friend, Jim Rogers, of Florida. Now my goal is to focus my efforts of preserving gravestones AND helping others locate their family burial grounds by photographing as many tombstones as possible and adding them to this website. If you find mistakes in the gravestone information that I have submitted, PLEASE let me know, so that I can make the necessary corrections.
If anyone would like to capture and use my church, cemetery or gravestone photos for ancestral research purposes, that is fine with me.
I have never cleaned a gravestone. I have only cleared my own family cemeteries of excess vegetation and debris. Also, I have NEVER used chalk, shaving cream, flour, baby powder or any other substance to mark or improve the ability to read a gravestone NOR do I approve of any of these measures. I simply photograph gravestones, usually of entire cemeteries, then enter them into the Find A Grave database. In some cases I will try to do a simple search for more information if this is lacking. I do not feel obligated to research the individuals entirely as this should be something for the family of the individuals to do. I simply wish to preserve the cemeteries and gravestones by photographing them as they are and entering them into the Find A Grave database. I do more extensive research on my own family lines, but I enter that informaton into databases created specifically for family research. I also do not feel obligated to flower each and every memorial I create as I firmly believe that caring enough to take the time and other necessary resources to create the memorial is what matters the most.

Thank you for all you have done! You're great. If it wasn't for people like you, I would never know all the family that make me who I am. Most of my family are from Chesterfield. I am a Welsh descendant.

|H. Eddins||Martha E. Eddins|
Do you know whether her parents, J.C. and M.A Eddins, were the same as Joseph Eddins (another son of Nehemiah and Obedience Eddins) and Matilda Ann Tice Eddins?
|H. Eddins||Nehemiah Eddins|
You have listed only one name, "Andrew Jackson," as a child of Nehemiah. There are other children's name that I have seen on census records. Is there a reason that you did not list the others?
|Martie Groome-McGirt||Eliza Huntley|
Thank you so much for taking this photo and listing this memorial. I have been looking for this person for about 2 years and just stumbled on the information today. I am trying to write a family history and this young woman was the mother-in-law of one of my family members. Her husband and daughter moved to North Carolina after her death.
Many, many thanks.
Thank you for the links!
