Bio and Links
Bio Photo I have been a genealogist for 22 years now. I love local and family history, cemeteries and helping others locate information about their family history. I helped organize the genealogy society in Chesterfield County in 1998 with the main goal in mind that the future members would help clean and care for the abandoned cemeteries there. We cleaned a couple in the beginning and then we became so preoccupied with the duties and responsibilities of the society that we did not have time for the original goal. Go figure!

I continued to be concerned about the preservation of the markers that do still exist in Chesterfield County and knew that I could never take care of all of them myself. Then I found out about Find A Grave through a friend, Jim Rogers, of Florida. Now my goal is to focus my efforts of preserving gravestones AND helping others locate their family burial grounds by photographing as many tombstones as possible and adding them to this website. If you find mistakes in the gravestone information that I have submitted, PLEASE let me know, so that I can make the necessary corrections.

If anyone would like to capture and use my church, cemetery or gravestone photos for ancestral research purposes, that is fine with me.

I have never cleaned a gravestone. I have only cleared my own family cemeteries of excess vegetation and debris. Also, I have NEVER used chalk, shaving cream, flour, baby powder or any other substance to mark or improve the ability to read a gravestone NOR do I approve of any of these measures. I simply photograph gravestones, usually of entire cemeteries, then enter them into the Find A Grave database. In some cases I will try to do a simple search for more information if this is lacking. I do not feel obligated to research the individuals entirely as this should be something for the family of the individuals to do. I simply wish to preserve the cemeteries and gravestones by photographing them as they are and entering them into the Find A Grave database. I do more extensive research on my own family lines, but I enter that informaton into databases created specifically for family research. I also do not feel obligated to flower each and every memorial I create as I firmly believe that caring enough to take the time and other necessary resources to create the memorial is what matters the most.

RE: Lewis Cruger Hasell at All Saints Waccamaw
Thanks Sharon! Good luck to you as well. Let me know if you ever find out about the deleted/merged memorial.

RE: Lewis Cruger Hasell at All Saints Waccamaw
I have no idea who requested the merge. Just because the deleted one refers back to my memorial for him doesn't mean I requested the merge, or at least I don't think so. It could have been Patti who requested it. Wish I could help you, but I don't have the answers and I have far to many memorial to remember as a specific one. Sorry, Let me know if you ever find out.

RE: Lewis Cruger Hasell at All Saints Waccamaw
Sharon, I don't think you have to own a memorial to merge it. I have no idea who merged these two. You can write Find A Grave and maybe they have a record of who requested the merger. I don't think I would have done it, especially since you say the one in Georgetown had a headstone. That would have qualified as a cenotaph and thus should have remained. I wish I could tell you more, but I don't remember every asking for a merger, in fact I don't believe I've ever asked for more than a couple of mergers in all the years I've been with Find A Grave.

Sharon, I have no idea what you're talking about. I never asked Find A Grave to merge a memorial for Lewis Hasell. Did I email you? Let me know.

RE: Nancy Copeland Thurman
I could not tell if you had received my earlier message or not. BUT I was wondering if you know who her parents were or not. I am descended through Rosanna Thurman > Nancy Gainey > THomas Hancock. Hope to hear from you soon.

RE: Nancy Copeland Thurman
Do you know who her parents were? I see someone on ancestry listed Ripley Copeland as her father, but his will lists a Nancy Lewis as his (Ripley Copeland's)daughter. I am related through Roseanna Thurman Gainey > Nancy Jane Gainey Hancock.
