Bio and Links
Bio Photo I'm just a person with a great interest in genealogy and history. I enjoy walking through cemeteries and reading the headstones. I really hate seeing a cemetery in bad shape, forgotten about, headstones laying on the ground, and weeds and grass very high.
My father told me a few times when I was young, "everyone should know their history"........well, I took that to heart. I grew up watching him read, among other topics, historical books on the Civil War, and many, many , many westerns.
As well as being a reenactor in the 58th Va. Infantry, I am an active member of the Summers-Koontz Camp, Sons of Confederate Veterans in Luray, Va., as well as an active member of "The Immortal 600", Military Order of the Stars and Bars.

RE: Kemp Hollow
Thanks again so much I will go back there one day soon. I saw the posted signs on that farm but I didn't notice a hunt club sign and there were several vehicles there the day we went so I just wanted to confirm. It is my understanding that the hunt club is the old Beahm house and my cousin said he had spoken to someone who rented the cabin and in the middle of the night a little girl ghost came climbing out of the fire place and even sprinkled suit on the floor so they left and decided not to hunt there anymore. I don't know about you but I love little footnotes like that about people and places that I research.

RE: Kemp Hollow
I drove down that way today but on the right hand side looked like a posted farm and on the left was a house that looked to new to be hunting cabins??

RE: Kemp Hollow
Thank you so much for the directions I can follow those for sure. My father has been sick so I got sidetracked on asking him if he could find it from the other directions. Thanks again for your help.

Can you give me directions to the Kemp Hollow Beahm Cemetery? I would like to go there to fill the remaining photo request and see the cabin.

RE: Samuel Higgs
I think I found Samuel Higgs in St. Matthews Cemetery in New Market Va. I will go there soon and let you know. Was he in the Civil War?

Thanks,
Nancy

Mills Cemetery Wise Co VA
I there, I noticed you had taken some photos from the Mills Family Cemetery in Coeburn VA, Wise County. I have been hunting for this cemetery for about a year. My Great Grandparents are buried there. But I was not sure which cemetery they were buried in. So, I always went to the wrong one. We travel through Coeburn sometimes taking my daughter to DC for doctor visits. I am hoping that you can locate my Great Great Grandparents. I know for sure that Martha Jane Semones CROWDER and James Robert CROWDER are both buried there from photos I have seen from my Granny (Nellie Crowder Hayes) one of there daughters.

Martha Jane Semones Hayes DOB 11-11-1881 Died Feb 4, 1976

James Robert Crowder DOB May 18,1877 Died Aug 9, 1956

They also had a son that died in a mining accident John Flavious Crowder DOB 1921 Died Dec 25 or 26, 1939. He is buried close to my GGparents. My Papaw (James Robert) made his headstone so It is not of normal readable size. My GGparents however seems to be a double headstone if I remember photos correctly.

My Papaw was a colam miner in Toms Creek where they raised their family. He became blind from this and died from Black Lung. If you would like more information please let me know. I also have other relatives buried in the area I think. I am looking for them now. Their names are:

Driscol Robert Crowder married to Lonnie Skeens (she is still alove but living with her daughter in Bristol VA) Their farm should still be in Toms Creek though. We think W Frances Bayberry crowder may also be burie there. She married Flavious Dec of 1939 the 9th I think.

Can you see if there is also a Louis H Semones? seems she lived next door to Pearly Mae Semones Bell? But not sure. All of the above belonged to the CHURCH of GOD Prophesy.

thanks so much, Renee (Marcus Hayes) Brown... The Hayes side of my family comes from Semones and Crowder in this area. Thanks again

I was wondering if you have called the office to see if Willam is buried in Oakwood. Be glad to take a picture. The sad thing about Oakwood is 95% of the Confederates buried there do not have headstones just a number on a stone. They also buried three men to a grave after the war. They do have a list of all the soldiers buried there.

RE: Beahm Cemetery
Thanks for getting back to me. I was afraid that the graves were gone. It's really a shame that the cemetery is in such disrepair. That makes me so sad. I'm related to pretty much everyone buried there. Thank you for documenting the remaining stones. Who know how much longer they'll be there.
