Bio Photo Updated January 16, 2015

******************************
Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery (ALNC)
, Elwood, Will Co., Illinois...

Currently active burial sections (opened for interments on the dates listed):

Cremated remains:
Section 11, August 2012
Section 12, October 2012
Columbarium 7, Wall 10, November 2014

Casketed remains:
Section 14, June 2013

I'll upload gravesite photographs for these Sections without the need for photo requests.

Note: Please refrain from requesting a photograph until after the professional grounds-keepers have had time to engrave and install marker stones (or niche covers), lay sod, and generally make the gravesites presentable. If I have not uploaded a photo by the 4-month mark, please do request a photo.

October 2014 - The staff has spent the summer working diligently to level and re-sod most of the cemetery. They are currently working on Sections 3 and 4. This includes raising the height and leveling thousands of marker stones, then removing the old grass/weeds and root system, leveling the ground with new black dirt and laying sod. The sod will need watered for a couple of weeks before it is ready for photographing.

Re-sodding Sections 5, 7 and 8 is complete.

NOTE: Sodding of gravesites has been discontinued for the winter months and should recommence in May 2015.

Thank you for your patience.

Information - where it belongs...

Biographical information belongs in the "bio" field or in other text fields on the MAIN memorial page.

Please do NOT post pictures of text to any of my memorial pages (Example: Do NOT post pictures of; obituaries, death notices, news paper articles, death certificates, remembrance cards, etc.).

Also, do NOT post biographical information in the Flowers section. This too, belongs in the appropriate text fields on the main page.

Forward the information using the "Edit" tab and appropriate link. I'll ensure it is added to the memorial page in a prompt, accurate and professional manner.

Do NOT post non-photograph graphics to the photo section (such as military emblems, membership emblems, flags, candles, etc). These types of graphics waste the 5 free "photo" slots provided by findagrave.com.

Family members should NOT have to sponsor a memorial page (cost $5.00) in order to upload a favorite picture simply because someone uploaded a non-photograph graphic or a picture of text to the photos section of the memorial page.

Transfers...

Transfer requests should be for direct relatives within four generations. This does not include Cousins, Aunts or Uncles. Nor does it include your neighbor or BFF.

You need not ask for a transfer if your "Contributions to Find A Grave" on you profile page shows an insignificant effort at "Pay-it-forward."

"The goal at Find A Grave should NOT be to manage all of your family members. If you have information to add, you should suggest it to the current manager and they should make the changes."

Jim Tipton,
Find A Grave creator

(c)opyrights, etcetera...

Please respect my photographs, they are for your personal use only. Do NOT copy them to this or any other website; do NOT sell them, or otherwise attempt to profit from their use without written permission.

For example: Do NOT charge your relatives a "handling" or "printing" fee to obtain a copy of your family tree if it contains one of my photographs.

In summary, do NOT take credit for any photograph that you did not physically take yourself.

About me...

I graduated from Freeport Area High School, PA in 1971 and spent the next year at a technical college in Columbus, OH.

I received my draft board physical notice in the spring of 1972 and in August followed in my father's foot steps, joining the US Navy (he put in 24 years before retiring as a CTCM). I spent the next 8 years as a submarine qualified nuclear electrician on both Fast Attach and Ballistic missile submarines. Then in October 1980 as an EM1(SS), I was honorably discharged.

I spent the next 28 years working in the civilian nuclear power industry in both Ohio and Illinios. Most of that time in the training department as a Licensing Instructor.

I retired in August of 2008 after 42 years working in the nuclear power field, including 8 years as an Electrician in Uncle Sam's Submarine Fleet.

Currently, I live in north-central Illinois, within 2 miles of the intersection of I-80 and I-55.

I enjoy researching my family tree (9,000+ and growing). My father's family is from Allegheny and Armstrong counties in western Pennsylvania. My mother's family is from Charles County, in southern Maryland.

My family has limbs, branches, and roots that stretch across the United States. Most however, settled in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, and California.

I enjoy taking cemetery, historical site, and other photographs. I am willing to assist with reasonable gravesite and non-gravesite photo requests; I will also consider the unreasonable requests.

To borrow a line from Paladin's business card, and, the 1957-1962 TV series...

RE: Find-A-Grave Rules
So yes, I have located a number of 'relatives' posted by other people. They gladly and happily transfer them to me when I discover them. They know that being a direct family member I can have so much to add to these sites. I have videos of Brookville Cemetery in NY that I took from a borrowed video camera and before I had a camera of my own. Notice how many from that cemetery were transferred to me long after I had moved away. I also know it is so much easier to add information to a site by oneself rather than send info to others and wait until they post it or not. One last thing, I don't live at Find A Grave.com. I go there but not everyday and not only there. I do a lot of time at ancestry, plus I have a life outside of the internet as well. Find A Grave was founded to create memorials for deceased people and it is not a contest to see how many memorials we can control. I have nearly 6,000 in my family tree so research is not exactly new to me. I will ask again if you will transfer the memorial I have spoken about in the hopes that you will transfer them. This is all I can ask. Thank you! ~Ed

RE: Find-A-Grave Rules
You may be partly right, but you only saw that I've been a member of Find A Grave for what you call a short period of time. Actually, I was an early contributor of Find A Grave back to 1996. I submitted pictures of Harry Chapin and William H Taft graves before I moved from NY to Arizona. My email back then was through a local internet provider, one that I was unable to log into after I moved. Hence, my log-in at Find A Grave was unable to occur because I did not have my original email access. Those pictures were listed by me as inmac, my original user name. Today, those pictures are still in place yet Find A Grave has them both listed as being posted in 2001. I've been a member of ancestry.com continuously since 2005 but had my membership ended when I moved several times and I accidentally let it expire. I did not use Find-A-Grave as much because when it started it was mainly for "Famous" people. When I went back to Find A Grave, it was completely done over to include not only people, but it allows pet memorials as well. By that time, yes, other people had created memorials of many of my family members, including many direct and not direct relatives. I did not demand you to transfer any such memorial to me, I did ask and I did say please. When I got your reply about not transferring 'cousins' I was very disappointed. There were several people who 'walked the floor' as it were in cemeteries of my relatives and created memorial pages. I do wish that people would create memorials of only their relatives, but that is not done. Continued...

Find-A-Grave Rules
You apparently have strict rules (Quoted from Find A Grave) about transferring relatives to other relatives. I've asked you on several memorial pages to transfer to me but you refuse.

Apparently you only abide by the Find A Grave rules that you want to! On the Anna Conklin site, you quoted from her obituary! Here is what Find A Grave says:

Can I add an obituary to my interment listing?
Do not copy obituary notices from newspapers (or from funeral home notices or web sites) to an individual's memorial record unless you have permission from the newspaper to do so or you are the author of the obituary. Some obituaries that were published in 1922 or earlier are now in the public domain. In general, obituaries in newspapers are submitted by the family with assistance from the funeral home. If the obituary is added to the memorial record, list the newspaper and date the obit was printed for example "Published in the Hattiesburg American, Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Internet Edition, April 11, 2007". Please do not include the names of living or surviving relatives in the biography, unless you have their permission. If you do not have permission to copy an obituary to a memorial, you may put a note stating the name of the newspaper and the date the obituary was published.
So, do you pick and choose the rules you want to? Just saying!
