Bio and Links
Bio Photo I was born and raised in Houston County. My father, Tommie Johnson is buried at Wesley Chapel. I still miss him. I would like to thank everyone who has left a flower on his memorial. He was a wonderful man.

I am also the ggggrandaughter of Captain Samuel Harrison Bowen, and also James Jennings. Who both served our Country when the Tea Party first sprang into action. I am a member of The Houston County Historical Commission located in the Courthouse Annex in Crockett. I am in the office on Monday.

I believe very strongly in cemetery preservation. Cemeteries in most cases are the only history of those that came before us. Like rare books in a library once it's lost it's lost forever. My only intention is to create a HISTORICAL RECORDING of those who are "Gone, but not Forgotten" before their tombstones are lost forever. This is copied from a fellow graver: "Get out and photograph memorials while they are still readable, preserve those memories that are quickly fading."

A while ago someone asked me why I do this, why do I spend time in cemeteries, taking pictures of graves, researching families that aren't my own, adding them here, linking and transferring, talking to people and finding out more. Ask me every day and I imagine I'd have a different answer every one, but in the end it boils down to love. I love what I do, and I love my family, and know that everyone was once loved, loved others, and just because they have died doesn't mean that they don't deserve the love of the living, even if it isn't a relative or friend.

For those who wonder about such things, when the number of memorials managed is higher than the number of memorials created, this is due to a few members who decided to transfer their memorials to multiple Findagrave contributors .... . and I am honored to be one of the contributors trusted to look after some of those memorials.

FROM THE FAQS:
How do I clean a headstone or grave marker?
Unless you are related to the interred on the headstone in question, DO NOT do anything to the headstone.

FROM THE FAQS: If you want to add from an obituary: Newspapers represent a very good source of information as a public record. What we ask is that those who index and memorialize the deceased from newspapers and other 3rd party accounts do so with full respect of copyright, refrain from adding information about living people, and respond generously to the family of the deceased.

FROM THE FAQS: Last Name as you would find it on the tombstone, if the interred had more than one marriage or other possible spellings please place this information in the bio and use the family links. Do not include honorary or other suffixes in the Last Name field.

Q: Where did I get my info?
A: I do not pay for a site like Ancestry because I cannot afford it. So I get most of my info from Family Search.org & Google - Google search & Google books. I also use oral family history, meaning depending on which family member you talk to,is the history you get. A couple of times I've gotten info from cemetery books @ a library. Most of the time I get info by physically visiting a cemetery & playing "cemetery census taker" by photographing the stones. If it's obvious yay!

PS. About Living People.

If I see a stone & take a pic I upload the pic. I'm not a psychic. I don't know if people are still alive. I don't know if they left no next of kin to make sure their death date's added to their stone. But if they are alive & have a problem with it either me or FAG will be happy to delete it.

Nobody should have a problem with it. When you put a stone in a cemetery you make it public info. However...lots of info is now public info. If you were born before 1940 census info is public info. In some states your birth, marriage, divorce & death info is public info. I believe in all states tax info, which can include your birthday & possible next of kin, is now public info. Same thing for the social security death index - it's in all states. Feel free to go to familysearch.org, which is a free site, & see what info is public info in your state. Also...other grave location sites will post lists & upload pics which include possible living people. And unlike this site, they won't remove people from the lists or delete pics just because someone is living. So just know all this before requesting your info be deleted.

I am happy to share ANYTHING that I post. Just check to be sure a family picture did not come from someone else's Collection. The source of the photograph will be posted under the photo.I have no crazy rules, My pictures are your pictures. Feel free to beg, borrow, steal with no intent to return. I take pictures of headstones out of kindness ... not for my ego or for the "numbers."

Be kind to one another because - One day we will all be, 'just a name' etched in stone. "Nothing is ended until it is Forgotten."

This is the day the Lord hath made. I will rejoice and be glad in it! (and not spend the whole day working on Findagrave!)

Old Prison Cemetery
Thanks for letting me know that Amanda Arnold already had a memorial. Unfortunately it was placed in the incorrect cemetery - something called the Old Prison Cemetery - along with several other memorials for people who died at the Rusk State Hospital and were buried at the state hospital cemetery rather than the prison cemetery. I've asked the man who placed them in the Old Prison Cemetery to move them to the correct cemetery so that duplicates can be removed and that further duplication can be avoided. Once he's moved Amanda's memorial to the state hospital cemetery I'll be happy to delete my duplicate on her. Thanks for your work on Find A Grave.

Hello Carol and thank you for the message. Would have been great to find a new relative, but unfortunately I could not find a connection. You have honored your family with wonderful memorials. Thank you for your contributions to Find A Grave!
