I do not collect names, nothing wrong with that as long as you know your limits. I like to get out and take photographs or at least try to. In doing this I have found numerous graves that have not been recorded. Many date back years. In your search, never assume that because someone copied a Cemetery list off the net they are any where near complete or accurate. Want to help others ? If you can get out and take some photos. If you can't do a search on a random memorial to see what you can find. Whatever you do, don't take yourself too seriously. Be respectful an understand that many people looking for information are not proficient with computers. If you can't respond to inquiries you receive. Transfer some memorials to people who can. Remember it's not about you. I ride with the Patriot Guard and enjoy taking my bike when I go out to take photos. If you see an old man on a large white motorcycle taking pictures, say hey.|

Hi... working on a project on early slave owners in Steuben County. Wondering about your source for the statement that he had brought his slaves with him when he came to Steuben county. Can you help?
|Kingfisher||RE: Mary Woodard|
Thanks... This is not the one I am looking for. There should be a Mary Woodard widow of Joseph Woodard who claimed a Civil War pension in 1890 while living in Troupsburg, which I now realize is quite a ways from this cemetery. There were several Wood(w)ard families in Steuben county but no descendants interested in genealogy. Have a nice day. Barbara
Do you have a higher resolution picture of the tombstone on Mary Woodard's memorial? http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=81180177
If so, would you post it? Do you have a transcription?
Thanks so much, Barbara

Thank you for making the connections and the kind words about my Mom. Regarding the offer for transfers, I thank you, but I will leave that up to her.
Regarding her passion for remembering our service men (and woman)...... There was a paper called the "Sea Tiger", back in the 60's, which was for our men serving in the armed forces and it had a request along with an address, for people to enter their name & address to invite the service men to write to folks back home. Soooo Mom entered her name & address and she got mail, boooyyy did she get mail!! She received over 800 pieces of mail in one week, my grandpa was PO'd cause he had to take the truck to the post office to pick it all up!! He laughs about it now. It took her nearly 6 months, but Mom wrote back to every one of them. In the mean time, new ones were arriving regularly each week and grandpa said "Pick 6 and let some of your friends write to some of the other ones." She picked 6, pasted around some of the others and went on from there. Two of these 6 young men that she was writing to were in the army and killed in Vietnam. This shook her deeply. The kindness the soldiers parents payed by sending her a card thanking her for having written to their sons, meant a lot to her and she has never forgotten it. Three eventually drifted away, but one continued for several years, She has his photo and has always kept it close. He was a well decorated Marine. He had a girl back home and my Mom went on to marry her now X-husband, who beat her and my older siblings. She was able to get out and my Dad met and fell in love with her and her "6 pack", as Dad always called them. They married, had 2 more (I'm one of them) and had a wonderful life. My Dad died Easter Sunday, April 24, 2011 of a heart attack, during this time they were caring for our oldest brother who was dieing, he followed dad and died the same year, December 16, 2011. Mom lost 5 very special people in less than 1 year, another family member and 2 great friends. My mother is a STRONG woman, but this nearly killed her. 2013 has been a rough year on her as well, my uncle nearly died May 6th - motorcycle accident, big caddy ran him over, Moms friend of 36 years died July 25th & another uncle died December 18th, 2 days after my brothers 2nd anniversary of his death. Mom's depths of family, love and loyalty run very very deep.
I hope I haven't overwhelmed you to much, I Love my Mom and she is the matriarch of our family and has rightfully earned the position.
