I started going to cemeteries in geneology searches. As I went thru the cemeteries I realized how much the stones wear down (and all the other factors - cemeteries not being kept up, vandalism, etc) and that someday you wouldn't be able to read those stones.|
I also realized what great things people were doing by taking pics, and volunteering to take pics, for people who were looking for their family and couldn't get to the area.
So...I starting taking pictures myself. Now that we have digital cameras all it costs me is my time. And the results are great...people find family they're looking for and most importantly, those that were buried in the cemetery and the stones were put up for are not forgotten.

|Carrie Stark||Thank you!!|
I just wanted to thank you so much for your help with providing the headstone photographs for my great aunt and great uncle.
I wasn't expecting such a quick turnaround when I made the request, but am so grateful for volunteers like you that are able to help given my distance from Cortland.
With kindest regards,
Thank you for investigating Harley's cemetery space for a headstone. I appreciate all your efforts.

Gosh, you must think me daft! There was already a grave photo on his memorial. Thank you for adding the family monument photo. I truly appreciate you!
|Cindy Coffell||George Smith|
Thank you for attempting to photograph George's grave marker. Would it be out of line for me to ask you to post the Smith monument photo to his memorial and a note that he has no marker of his own? I appreciate you!
|Cindy Coffell||Thomas Smith|
Thank you for the grave photos for Thomas. Even though he had no individual marker, I'm glad you posted photos of the plot and the space he occupies. Looks like you had a pretty day for walking the cemetery. I appreciate you!
|Lorraine Hatch||Margaret Hallock Cruikshank|
Thank you so very much to send me her obit notice.
No, Margaret is not buried in same cemetery as her son son, she is buried in Woodhull, (Steuben County) New York

Oh, great, thanks! Maybe next year someone will note his service and make sure he gets a flag on memorial day. Too bad Find a Grave doesn't have a symbol to identify a vet (or does it?). Or maybe the one next to Lovina Howard's stone is meant to be for James.
