BORN APRIL 27, 1843, AT STE-MARTINE, QUÉBEC.
Baptised Charles Thuot, of a family who for generations had been called "Thuot dit Duvall." In America he chose to call himself Duvall exclusively, perhaps because Americans had difficulty pronouncing Thuot to his satisfaction.
