DIXON, Thomas John Dec. 14, 1918- Jan. 27, 2013 Thomas John Dixon passed away following a brief hospitalization in Tucson, Arizona on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, in his 94th year. A lifelong bachelor, Tom's early life began in Long Island, New York. His parents died early in his life, and he was raised in a Catholic orphanage for a time. In his teens, he was adopted by parents, "Mr. Thompkins" and Dorothy, who brought him to Chicago, Illinois, where he finished his education. During World War II, he completed three years of service as a Navy medic in the South Pacific. After the war, he was a make-up artist and professional model and dancer. He worked with various Chicago celebrities. In the early 1950's, he was hired by Merle Norman Cosmetics Co. and moved to California. He began a long association with the cosmetics company as Merle Norman's personal assistant. Upon Merle Norman's retirement, they traveled extensively, making long-lasting friendships throughout the world. Eventually, Tom retired to the serenity of Tucson, Arizona. Tom is remembered for his great loyalty to friends, his superior wit, and his great sense of fun and adventure. Funeral service and interment will be on Wednesday February 27, at 1:00 pm at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1847 14th Street, Santa Monica, California.
