Bio

I have been working on genealogy for about 50 years and my husband, Roy, and I are also working on a project to identify and photograph burial places of Civil War veterans in Iowa. He is the State Graves Registration Officer for the Iowa Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW). I have Virtual Cemetery of Civil War Veterans buried in Iowa which now has over 35,000 names. You can view it at: https://www.findagrave.com/virtual-cemetery/300768 . I also have Virtual Cemeteries for most Iowa Counties but some do not have all the known Civil War Veterans yet. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HELP WITH THIS PROJECT, PLEASE GO TO MY VIRTUAL CEMETERY FOR YOUR COUNTY AND YOU CAN SEE WHICH ONES NEED PHOTOS. FAG ONLY ALLOWS 20 PHOTO REQUESTS PER WEEK SO I USUALLY RUN OUT LONG BEFORE THE WEEK IS OVER. Check the SUVCW National Graves Registry at www.suvcwdb.org to search by name if you do not find them on my Virtuals. If you know of anyone who should be on these lists, but is not, please contact me so that they can be recognized for their service.

I have a favor to ask of all the great Find a Grave photo volunteers. In the last few weeks I have found several gravestone photos that only show the first name of the person and the last name on the memorial is wrong. Please take a picture of the stone the last name is on and the stone with the first name together and then a close up of one or both if needed for clarity. It will help you when you get ready to add them to Find a Grave and will save a lot of confusion about the last name.

PLEASE remember that an INSCRIPTION is something WRITTEN ON THE STONE. It is not something you found somewhere else or something near the stone.

If you are a relative of someone I have posted a memorial for--that is NOT a relative of mine--I would be glad to transfer management to you. I do have a personal policy of NOT transferring memorials to anyone who is listed as Anonymous, though.

Please feel free to use my photos as you like, but I would appreciate photo credit if you use them on another website.

If you have a comment, question,or correction to any of my Memorials, please use the Edit on the Memorial page. It is much easier to find the correct person that way. Additions and corrections which are phrased rudely as demands may be ignored. If you do not have contact information or allow public messages, please do not send me corrections.
