I spend weekends visiting cemeteries and photographing the art and symbolism in them. I have put together PowerPoint programs on Tombstone Symbolism and other related topics that do for historical & genealogical societies and other interested groups. I run Tombstone Tales on Facebook, featuring photos from our cemetery trips.|
I have been researching family history for almost twenty years and Cloud County Kansas history for over ten years now. I enjoy both! I researched the history of Blue Hill Kansas (Mitchell county ghost town) and wrote two books on it. I am a taphophile who enjoys spending time in quiet, country cemeteries.
I'm the mom of two wonderful sons - Kody (age 24) and Kasey (age 8). I have a great husband who goes along on my cemetery excursions and helps out when he can.
I love photography and scrapbooking as well.

Please tell me more about Blue Hill, KS. I can not find anything about it n line.
I may take a drive out that way some day soon before it gets cold.

Thank you. Yes, we must as I am related through Thomas' brother James (great grandfather). Had all of these old obits that were cut out of newspapers in some of my grandparents items and now, with find a grave, have found a place for them.
Thank you for all of the work that you have done in the Sabetha Cemetery.

Thank you for the info on Mr. Ashland. I was surprised at the various name spellings. I like linking families. ~Terry

Hi Lori, This search has proved harder than I expected. I have combed this plot high and low and can only find two markers: Laura (EVENSON) CURTIS, 21 Feb 1869 - 31 Jan 1949, and her sister Matilda (EVENSON) ARSNEAU, 19 Oct 1876 (or 7 Oct 1875 depending on the source) - 17 Mar 1952. I can see a burial spot in another location, but I poked around with my sounding rod and can find no other markers. Very strange! I'm sorry I can't be of more help. Thanks, -Dave
Hi, Yes Edward and Clara (Halfide) Curtis are buried in the East 1/2 of plot 120 in Evergreen Cemetery. There are a number of other Curtis burials there too. I think I remember seeing Curtis markers there. This information is available to you on line. Here is the link:
Search for Curtis and it should bring up the info. Thanks, -Dave
|albers_ancestry||RE: Eliza Collar|
Hi, There are three Collars listed in connection with plot 120 in Evergreen Cemetery:
Eliza Collar, died 2 Mar 1881, age 35, father: Samuel Halfide, mother: Eliza
Louis Collar, died 13 Aug 1883, age 74, place of birth: N. Y.
Eliza Collar, died 18 Apr 1891, age 87yr 0mos 17days, place of birth: England
It is possible that others are buried in that plot, but I have no quick way of searching for them.
I updated the records in Lakeside Cemetery. If you'd like me to transfer, please let me know. I have no familial connection. Thanks!
