Abel Bryant
I am a descendent of Abel Bryant (d 1902). You have him as James Abel Bryant. I have never seen him referred to as James. Even his Civil War file says Abel Bryant. Can you tell me where you got that name?

RE: Questions re Bryants

I am quite sure of the relationship between Benjamin (1891-1935) and Esom (1841-1918) for Ben was my grandfather. My mother was his daughter. I would be happy to answer whatever questions you may have to the best of my ability.

RE: Tarlton Bryant (1785-1854) / John Bryant (1692-1741) connection?

I got this additional data from researcher Darrel Brown, who has the most extensive database Iíve found. I felt fairly comfortable with it, as it seemed to fit what I had. I doubt that really hard data exist anywhere.

Iím sure John Bryant had more than one son, and likely there could have been a John Jr. who was Williamís brother. I would make no distinction between Bryan and Bryant. They are the same surname, just different spellings (sometimes Brian and Briant).

The South Carolina connection is significant, I believe. I would give considerable weight to that.

I made an image of the data page for John Bryant and tried to insert it here, but it wouldn't take. Email me ( and I'll be able to send it that way.
