Fred D. Brooks
Thank you for posting the obituary of Fred D. Brooks. He was a distant cousin of mine and this has helped in my family research. The Brooks line has been a challenge for me and I appreciate any help that can be given. Bless you!

Carberry correction
Vicki, I'm a Carberry descendant and have done the whole Carberry clan. You have the incorrect Carberry as the father of Stephan Andrew. My gg grandfather was Amos Marion Carberry b. Oct 10 1839 d. feb 27 1923. He is buried in the Ogden Cemetery with Lucy.
I'd really like to talk to you about the Carberry line. Please email me at or contact me in Guthrie at 293-9128.

Gilbert Moore
From "The Oklahoma Spirit of 17":

Son of Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Moore, Okemah, Okla., was born in Lynn County, Missouri, September 5, 1897, and educated in the Oklahoma schools. Enlisted from Hughes County, Oklahoma, with the National Guard in May, 1917, this later being Federalized. Was sent to Camp Bowie for training with Co. F, 142nd Infantry, 36th Division. Was sent to France in June, 1918, with the 36th Division, being advanced to Corporal. Was killed in the Meuse-Argonne battle October 18, 1918. No direct information from his Captain was received as to how he met his death, but a "Buddie" wrote that he was killed by a machine gun bullet while locating machine gun nests. This was and especially dangerous undertaking, and when volunteers were asked for he was one of those who feared nothing and was willing to risk all in order that an end might be reached in the horrible massacre that was taking place. The Croix de Guerre and one other French decoration was sent his father, and also a citation from General Pershing, commending the bravery of his son. It is natural that this lad should have enlisted and offered himself to his country, coming from a direct line of fighting men as he did. His father having enlisted in the Spanish-American War and fighting with the U. S. Infantry for 6 months. Corporal Moore was buried in the National Cemetery in France.

RE: Kay & Mary Catherine Montgomery
They may very well be my relatives. I thought that my gr. grandfather John McKinley and his twin brother George died in Ouray, but it could have been in Gunnison since they tried to farm there for a few years. There was also a daughter Mary about 12 years old who died about the same time (around 1890-1895). There were other relatives as well. So if you should see any Montgomerys or McKinleys, I would love to see them documented.
Thanks, Barb

RE: Kay & Mary Catherine Montgomery
Hi Vicki
Thanks, I would love to have the management of the Montgomery memorials. I hope to someday find the rest of the links for Kay & Mary Catherine which will then connect to my family's other memorials.
You do a great service for all of us who are working on our family histories. As I live in Oregon, I haven't had an opportunity to explore in CO as yet. There are some McKinleys there and more Montgomerys. By the way, Mary Catherine McKinley's father was Samuel Packwood McKinley, who died in Castleton CO in 1918. His brother John was the grandfather of Mabel and Nellie Griswold, so they were actually cousins (second, third, fourth--I can never figure that out).
Keep up the good work
