Bio and Links
Bio Photo I was born in Ventura Co.CA.and moved to IA.in 1971 when my Dad retired from the U.S.Navy.He was born in Page Co.,IA. along the MO.border.

My Mother was born in Butler Co.,OH.but the family moved to Santa Cruz,CA. when she was a teenager. She met my Father in Ventura Co.,CA.

I spent my formative years in Council Bluffs,IA.and consider it my hometown.
I served as an Infantry Scout in the Army National Guard. So "scouting" out stones & ancestors is right up my alley.Lol.

I personally find it disturbing that someone would rather hold on to a memorial that they are not related to because of the findagrave 4 generation "guidelines".It is a GUIDELINE people not a RULE.Geez!

I would prefer my created memorials were with family no matter how far down the line or even a friend. At least they are FAMILY or a FRIEND!Isn't that why we do this?

DUPLICATES-I previously was glad to remove mine whether it had been created first or not.But as of late people are blatantly adding duplicates without looking first.Just because they may be your family doesn't mean you can undo someone else's work.Because of this I will no longer remove mine (there are exceptions) if made first and then I will have findagrave remove the duplicate you made.

EDITS,corrections,additions etc. gladly made.

MAIDEN names. As my worked has evolved I try to add maiden names if possible and state the source in the notes section. If no source was added then I got the name from a family tree on the net. Please be kind if a name is misspelled or wrong. On censuses a name is often spelled as it sounded to the enumerator.

If I use your gravestone photo on my family tree I give you credit with a simple "Photo courtesy of (your member name) findagrave".Because I so appreciate the kindness and hard work you do to get me a picture of my ancestors.

Any and all pictures I take are for you,so they are yours to use as you feel. The only exception being those marked "Courtesy of" which means I got those from someone else and was used with their permission.

If I have added a family member or your memorial and you have not passed yet and it upsets you PLEASE let me know and I will remove it immediately. It is not my intention to upset anyone.

I AM NOT,NOR DO I CLAIM TO BE PERFECT!

Thank-you for letting me know about Vernon's burial location. I don't know how I missed it as I have his parents and sister buried in the Atlantic Cemetery.
Was born in Iowa and have lived in CA for the past 40+ years.

RE: Maria Fletcher Blanchard
Wow! You have (or remember) a lot of great information! I have definitely noticed how many contributions you've made to Find A Grave. Lots of time and work on your part for the benefit of tons of people. I'm sure many are grateful to you and I thank you too----I think its important to keep records of the past. But then I guess I love anything that has to do with history. I find "cemetery hunting" (I call it) really interesting. So many cemeteries I never even knew existed! And then my second favorite thing is a mystery....finding some of the graves requested is like solving a mystery! Hunting for clues.
Anyway, I have often wondered whether records have ever been kept or where they would be for some of these cemeteries. Such a shame about Blanchard records being burned. Would have been a fantastic resource. A person really needs some extra help or SOME source of info to check against or help fill in the blanks. I've been referring to the WPA list because its all I know to do, but it has errors and omissions too, and some people have gone since it was done. Do you know of any other handy source for info?

I don't live especially close to Blanchard - we are just a few miles north of the Mo border a few miles off Hwy 59. But I guess you could say I've caught the bug: what started as adding to the records for my family cemeteries (Fremont County & Nebraska) has turned into going to cemeteries close by whenever I can!!! But I began to discover that some people couldn't be found, and some I found weren't on any list. That basically made me sad, as if they had been forgotten.
At that point, my plan turned into attempting to photo all stones in a given location.....which is what I did at Blanchard. Think I got every one of them---but a few are not legible.
