I became a member of FAG almost 10 years ago. I love FAG more and more each year. I try to add as many pictures to FAG as time allows. |
14 years ago my daughter had a digital camera that ran by floppy disk and that is when I started to take complete cemeteries. My own genealogy sometimes consumes my time so all the pictures I have are not added yet. Every chance I get I will add a bunch. I love how big FAG has become. I tell everyone about it and advise them to join. The more that joins the more pictures added. I have one request from FAG and that is to add a spot for obits.
I started doing genealogy in my middle 20's, I really got into it when my sister introduced me to a program called Family Tree Maker by Broderbund, my fathers Mormon family was in there. I found my grandmother had entered her genealogy to familysearch.org which has also come a long way and open to non members. My grandmothers information ended up on these disks. Now we have Ancestry and it is a wonderful program.
I took off from there. I consider myself very good at what I do and I am always willing to help others.
My dream with my best friend was to retire and get an RV and travel everywhere and anywhere and take pictures of any cemetery we passed. My dream ended when he passed away from pancreatic cancer. One of my fond memories of him is: he would come into the computer room and asked me if I was looking for my great great great in his Spanish tongue. I guess he really did not understand what I was doing but he was content just knowing I was near. I miss him very much.
I want to share one more special thing about myself, my father was a non active Mormon so I did not grow up in the church. I learned he was Mormon when I was in my 30's.
I went to a family reunion in Mississippi July 4, 2011 and got to meet my Mormon family. I have never in my life met such loving people in such large quantities. I was told by one of my cousins that I was chosen, I stopped for a minute and looked at her and said YES, I think I was.
Mormons believe by doing genealogy you are
gathering your family together for the next world. Mind you, I did not grow up in the church and did not know this about genealogy I just knew that I lived and breathed it and never knew why. After my trip I came home and was baptized into the Mormon faith and I love it so much. Like I said before, I have never in my life met so many loving people in such large quantities. Not knowing for so many years I was chosen to do Gods work and gather his children up makes me realize genealogy is not a fun past time but a chosen gift.
I normally do not talk about my personal life but I read other FAG'ers and that makes me know them personally. We are a family and I just love my family so now you know who I am. Hats off to the person or persons that created this awesome site and thank you all for making this a great place to go. Keep up the good work.

|Susan K. Park||RE: Cemetery Pictures,|
I'm sorry that I'm just now getting back to you.
Beloit actually has 4 cemeteries. Oakwood, Eastlawn, Mt. Thabor and Calvary. We do not have a cemetery called City Cemetery. Eastlawn is our largest and newest cemetery. Oakwood is the oldest cemetery. If you like, you can call the Cemetery clerk Sandy Day at 608-364-2867 for further information.
Mt. Thabor and Calvary are out Catholic cemeteries. You can call the cemetery clerk for these two cemeteries at 608-754-3472, her name is Kathy Crane.
Hopefully either of the clerk's can further check their records for you.

I was able to find more obits for your Milwaukee memorials online - I will email them tonight. I also added the one for Mary to my library list since that edition of the paper was not available.
|Janet Eiler||RE: Cemetery Pictures,|
I'm not sure what you are talking about? I haven't sent any comment/edits regarding pictures. I have been editing names and informing people of duplicate memorials. I would only send comment about a pic is if it was attached to the wrong pic. Who are you referencing?
Thank you for your pics....the more complete we can make our cemeteries the better!

You are very welcome, we LOVE doing this..........pam and teresa
I have 2 of the obits, the one for Merrill ran in a paper that is not scanned. I can put it on my list to get the next time I go to the library if you don't mind waiting.
Many of the Milwaukee papers are scanned in the Google archives site. The Milwaukee Journal and The Milwaukee Sentinel are the tandem daily newspapers that ran until 1995, then they merged into The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. I know Google has discontinued the scanning of the papers but there are many in there and I usually find what I need.
I will send the other 2 obits tonight since I pulled them and they are saved to my laptop at home.
I hope this helps!
