Ashley Family
Hello, I was wondering if our Ashley families from Kansas are related. I've only recently made these discoveries. My great grandmother was Mabel Ashley (1910-1962), she married Paul Cade. Mabel's parents were Laura E. Butts (1887-1973) and Byron Cicero Ashley (1875-1942). Byron's parents were Silas G. (Green I'm guessing) (184_-1901) and Mary Jane Hamilton (1852-1926). That's as far as I can go back.

RE: Harriet Humphreys Toler
You are welcome...Harriet's mother Mary Ellis would be my gggrandfather, George Ellis sister. Their father, Robert Ellis served with the South Carolina [not to be confused with a Robert Ellis in North Carolina] militia during the Revolutionary War.

Jesse Toler

I saw your photo request for Jesse Toler. He is buried in Spencer-Robbins Cemetery in Sullivan County. The listing in the Sullivan County cemetery book has his last name misspelled as Tolen. The listing reads: Tolen, J.W. d. Nov 19, 1853 38y 7m.

Spencer-Robbins Cemetery is in bad shape. It was read in 1966 and when they redid the books in the early 1980's they used the old reading because most of the stones are down and/or unreadable.

Even if Jesse's stone can be found and is readable, I can't photograph it for you as I live nearly 400 miles away from Sullivan but I thought this info might help.

If you need anything else, just let me know.
